PuWe 1 captured from my dark site in southern France 🇫🇷 😊🔭

This was shot on the EdgeHD 8 with Hyperstar at f/2 for a total integration time of about 6.5 hours using an OSC cam with the Baader UHCL filter.

PuWe 1 is one of the largest and faintest planetary nebula known!

I photographed the Rosette Nebula again after five years. Several attempts, incorrect framing, discarded color channels, and unfavorable lighting conditions turned the project into an adventure

LBN 728 - another very faint nebula in Ursa Major.

I collected these photons in January 2025 at Observatory Hoher List with my mobile Apo setup.

The Crab Nebula (M 1) in the constellation Taurus was the second prominent supernova remnant that I captured this January. It is already visible with larger binoculars, but all the nice filaments only show up in the photo. Total integration: 6h 26min #astrophotography 🔭

The Jellyfish Nebula (IC 443), a prominent supernova remnant in the constellation Gemini, was my first attempt at a mosaic. The idea only came to me during data collection, but after some challenging editing, I am kind of happy with the result. 🔭 #astrophotography

Thanks to you, orphaned elephants always have a home.

For the youngest, that means a Keeper beside them through the night – sleeping above them, waking for feeds, offering comfort when they need it most.

Sh2-234 (IC 417) The Spider Nebula captured from my patio on six nights in December 😊🔭

It was shot on the EdgeHD 8 for a total integration time of about 50 hours in mono using Ha, SII and OIII narrowband filters and combined with RGB stars.

That was a tough one: The galaxy M74 in the constellation Pisces (and the weather) gave me some trouble, but I'm quite happy with my final image. This is a combined exposure time of 13 h with the L-Pro & IDAS NB12, which brought out the H-alpha regions #astrophotography @kat-astro-bot.bsky.social

I just finished reading this amazing book 🙂
After enjoying “Under Alien Skies” so much this is another book written by Philip Plait that I can highly recommend! Don’t get fooled by its cover: It’s serious and scientific stuff! I’ve read lots of books about space but learned lots of new things here.

1/ The Spaghetti Nebula (Simeis 147, Sh2-240) is what remains of a supernova and the second project which, up to now, had been on my list of “black beasts” — targets I considered impossible to capture under my sky — that I have finally brought home after a three-year battle. ⬇️
