#Aristotelianism
This is quite literally the story of Europe’s intellectual transformation from the 16th to 18th centuries—the decay of Aristotelianism and the Scholastic Method.

rationalism vs. empiricism just seems like rehashed platonism vs. aristotelianism

aristotelianism is just common sense formalized. like, everyone knows that some people naturally deserve to be slaves, and that others are morally irredeemable trash.

I find myself curious, my fellow #SkyStorians: what is your favorite "What If...?" Alternate History Question/Scenario?

Too often, human cruelty is written off as mere nature. Philosophy after Aristotelianism must instigate a structural revolution within Monastic Ascent Literature in order for us to reconquer the mundus imaginalis together, collectively, as a wave like that embraced by Fourier or Laplace's Transform.

Which is a shame because Aristotelianism - a kind of realism - is quite attractive.

Ah yeah that’s a bit of an internal Lonergan-ism, sorry. There’s some residual aristotelianism at work, specifying conscious acts/operations based on their objects vice versa. So you become conscious of color by acts of seeing, but you become cs of ideas by acts of understanding

[Hissing] Neo-Aristotelianism

I was studying to become a Catholic Priest, a prerequisite for a Masters in Divinity, which was a minor degree in Philosophy. I really took to Thomistic and Aristotelianism Philosophy.

Marxists are the Thomists of sociology. they are scholastic, dogmatic, and offer a bastardized imitation of an older tradition: one that has all the downsides of generic functionalism with none of its upsides. just as Thomists offer a mutilated Aristotelianism best replaced by its generic shadow.

imo from a lefty angle, blackledge did some interesting work in trying to generate a revolutionary aristotelianism as a project, and you can see that he aligns with it in ETHICS, but i think the issue was that so many Thomists found AV and WJWR as the cheatcodes to demolishing modern ethics.

Apropos of nothing, it struck me when reading up on Philippa Foot (for someone so renowned for neo-Aristotelianism and Catholicism, NOT concerned with Thomism) how critical she was to 20th century continental philosophy’s exhausting hard-on for obtuse edge-hypothetical thought experiments

Looking forward to the next Positive Luddism reading group (w. Alberto Romele and @annanosthoff.bsky.social) session with @siapka.bsky.social on December 4th (6pm)
