#Afrofuturism
Two of my most recent works were on display last night for the opening, Kindred Spirits in Fayetteville NC. I'm in my afro-surrealism bag right now ✨

All this. Still.
If I don't say it, no one will. Thankfully, I have a big mouth.

African writers are producing science fiction and fantasy self-consciously rooted in the continent, rather than its diaspora.
Kingsley Charles explores what sets Africanfuturism apart from Afrofuturism.
The Rise of a Distinctly African Speculative Fiction
The continent’s writers and directors are separating their sci-fi and fantasy from the diaspora focus of Afrofuturism

Indigenous futurism and Afrofuturism are seeds for hope. They are writing about resistance in the future and actively work against colonialism to broaden our imagination. Cyberpunk is uniquely dystopian. The corpos have won. But why? We discussed that what we create impacts the real world.

Thanks to the work of Nicole Furtado, I taught my students about Indigenous Futurism and its connection to Afrofuturism, the fetishistic treatment of Asian cultures in cyberpunk, and the connection between California missions, oppression in Oceania, Japanese internment, Slavery and the Holocaust. ✨

I don't know Dr. Okorafor or speak for them, I am simply a fan of their work.

Here is their post explaining the difference between AFRICANfuturism and Afrofuturism. You don't need to understand something in order to be respectful or kind.

Or African jujuism I would consider them subcategories of Afrofuturism because that’s just how genres work. Like… do you reject the identifier “black?” I don’t buy the argument that Afrofuturism erases work from the continent or elsewhere. Nalo Hopkinson, Tochi Onyebuchi, Tomi Adeyemi, etc.

Read the new TOS for tiktok, deleted my account and the app off my phone. Replaced it with Libby and downloaded an afrofuturism audiobook. I wish I could only have facebook marketplace by itself but one thing at a time..

This is an oddly thoughtful read about the aftermath of DEI from an Afrofuturism perspective. It's a humble hybrid of perspectives and research methods.

Most importantly, it cites me in the first sentence to define DEI. www.mdpi.com/2076-0760/14...

The locqp opera company is having an Afrofuturism-themed fashion show/party fundraiser next month and I spent an hour yesterday morning figuring out my outfit instead of getting ready for work and it's

Here's a little reminder from the year 1991 that Underground Resistance wasn't always only about abstract forms of resistance. And it's a banger of a Techno tune.
