Growing up in a place with so many Abenaki names (even going to "Camp Abenaki" as a kid) and not finding out til adulthood my patriotic revolutionary ancestors helped kill & drive them off, that was cool

Shit it's the same everywhere. Even Chicago was an Algonquin word. Living on their graves

i heard that before, from somewhere, i'll read about that and get back to you. But, the area where i live was inhabited already by Abenaki people when settlers first got here. Colonists built fortified "garrison" houses ASAP—so i think

a) Wecohamet was already populous
b) non-indigenes were rude.

Well! I have been doing my very best to respectfully write Keewakw into my story set in northern NH.

Keewakw is a tall humanoid being with grey-tree-bark coloration who appears in the lore of the indigenous Western Abenaki people; Keewakw is associated with hunger.
Day 25
While I know this prompt has had a *ton* of overlap so far, surely there's something left to add to humanoid day? 😁🧚🧝 Stretching the idea of 'critters' again but eh, valid enough for me!

By the early 70s, after hordes of immigrants brought disease and death to the natives, had entered the country through open borders. The immigrants were becoming increasingly violent toward the natives.
