X8! And it's growing?! Could be fantastic auroras ahead! Or big trouble?
For those of you following the activity on the Sun this week, we have an active region (AR 4366) that recently produced a powerful X8 class flare. It seems to be building in size and complexity as it rotates across the Sun so this is definitely a region to watch 🌞💥💨🌍

I would like to spend a day on the alternate time thread where the great Carrington sunspot occupies a significant amount of public discourse, where junior Al Yankovics write a tune that corrals the great Carrington and Great Barrington, where we marvel about auroras and the wonders of science.
“A few days ago, sunspot 4366 didn't exist. Now it is a behemoth almost half the size of the great Carrington sunspot. Rapid growth is making the sunspot unstable. It has unleashed dozens of solar flares in past 24 hours, including a powerful X8-class flare” www.spaceweather.com
