WA COVID-19 Update: New COVID-19 notifications ticked up slightly to 97 cases this past week. The chart shows PCR-confirmed cases (blue bars) and test positivity (black line) from 2023–2025. Cases and positivity have had several large waves — including a major peak in late 2023 — but both have dropped to much lower levels in recent months, with positivity sitting around 2–3%. Even at lower numbers, COVID continues to circulate, and rises can happen quickly. Stay aware and protect yourself. WA COVID-19 Hospital Update: Hospitalised COVID-19 cases are holding steady at 16 per day, while ICU cases increased to 1 on average this week. The chart shows the 7-day average of hospital and ICU COVID cases from 2023–2025. Multiple waves are clearly visible — with peaks above 200 hospitalisations — followed by declines, but the virus continues to send people to hospital even in 2025. COVID is still here, still hospitalising people, and still impacting the healthcare system. Stay aware and protect yourself. WA Wastewater Update: COVID levels in Perth’s wastewater increased this past week, according to the latest 14-day weighted averages. The blue line (wastewater concentration) shows multiple large waves since 2023 — with huge spikes in late 2023 and mid-2024 — followed by smaller but persistent surges throughout 2025. After a recent low, levels have now risen again. The yellow line shows reported COVID cases per 100,000 people, which remain much lower than wastewater signals, highlighting under-detection in testing. Wastewater is still one of the strongest indicators that COVID is circulating, even when official case counts appear low. WA Variant Update: Genomic sequencing shows NB.1.8.X is now the dominant COVID variant in wastewater across Perth. Clinical samples are fewer, but the limited sequencing available also detected NB.1.8.X and BA.3.2.X. The charts compare clinical samples (top) and wastewater (bottom) from July 2022 to December 2025. Earlier Omicron lineages (BA.2, XBB, KP, LP, etc.) rise and fall over time, but by late 2025 the NB.1.8 lineage family becomes the leading signal, especially in wastewater. Because clinical sample numbers are very low, recent clinical variant data should be interpreted cautiously. Wastewater continues to provide the clearest picture of what’s circulating.

A webpage titled “Weekly update – acute respiratory infection activity in Tasmania”, published Friday 12 December 2025 with data current as of Sunday 7 December 2025. Summary Table Condition — Current activity Acute Respiratory Illness: Low Pathogen — Current activity COVID-19: Low Influenza: Moderate RSV: Low Narrative Summary (as of 7 December 2025) Acute respiratory illness (ARI) levels in Tasmania are currently low and stable. COVID-19 activity remains low. Two Omicron sublineages — PE.1 (descendant of KP.3.1.1) and PQ.2 (descendant of NB.1.8.1) — continue to circulate. Influenza activity is still moderate and unusually elevated for this time of year, driven mainly by influenza A (H3N2). Activity has been rising since late October, consistent with similar trends in other states. RSV activity is low and at typical inter-seasonal levels. RSV in infants under 6 months remains much lower than in 2023 and 2024. A note at the bottom states the next update will be published on Friday 9 January 2026.
