My friend told me they started watching Severance and began to explain the plot and I was like “wait that’s Severance? I thought it was like a gangster family drama.”

After several very vague google searches, I realized that I’ve thought Succession and Severance were the same thing.

Tried to go to sleep at 1, somehow it’s 5 and I just realized my nephew will be about 20 and I’m trying to find him on socials but he has a very common name that he also happens to share with a disgraced zoologist

I feel like I’m gonna vomit just reading this
Zuckerberg aligning himself with the far-right: "Zuckerberg is co-hosting a black-tie reception Monday with Republican megadonor Miriam Adelson to celebrate the inauguration"
Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Mark Zuckerberg to attend Trump's inauguration
The three will be seated together on the inauguration platform with other prominent guests.

The looters I want to talk about are the ones who stole our safe and stable climate from us. Millennia of planetary harm for individuals' profit. They set the fires.

The restaurant I work at has been closed for 2 days because of the fires. We’re supposed to be open today. We’re almost entirely outdoors. It’s a Friday night but I’m betting we have less than 100 people show up.

When Rome fell, life continued as normal, everything functioned, however, life slowly degraded, got harder, people disassociated, communities became hollow, crime and homicide exploded, and all services collapsed. Rome didn’t fall from decadence it fell to inaction; it became a nationless state.

I’ve been alternating between the Stardew Valley wiki and Watch Duty for the last 8 hours, attempting to escape into pixels but knowing I may need to escape for real at any moment

I can’t get over how cartoonishly evil this is

putting in your fucking “hate speech” policy that a particular kind of hate speech against a particular group of people is explicitly allowed - and therefore encouraged - is the kind of shit that should be done from a volcano lair with a shark moat
Meta literally created a LGBTQ exception for calling someone mentally ill as an insult. You can't do it for any other group except LGBTQ people.

Hi! Some-time lurker, first time poster.

For this week’s @newyorker.com, I dove into a romantasy plagiarism lawsuit that raises deeper questions about tropes, authorship, and the grubby imperatives of selling books in a post-literate world.

Did a Best-Selling Romantasy Novelist Steal Another Writer’s Story?
Tracy Wolff, the author of the “Crave” series, is being sued for copyright infringement. But romantasy’s reliance on standardized tropes makes proving plot theft tricky.

I spent New Year’s Day with my partner playing Stardew Valley while violently hungover. I tried to get to the bottom of the dangerous mines (failed with 5 levels to go 😭) and he decorated my house because he’s shocked that I hadn’t done anything aesthetically pleasing with my farm and am on year 7.

If your goal this year is to read more books, remember:

you don’t have to finish every book you start. If you’re halfway through and can’t stand the characters or just don’t care what happens, it’s okay to put it down.

Life’s too short to read books you don’t love!
