Another thing about Alan Wake I like that is sometimes lost in snarky retrospectives is that the art around Cauldron Lake doesn't have to be good to affect reality. It's not that Alan Wake's turgid prose is so good that it warps reality! It's that it comes from an emotionally honest place.

Every one of these games is just the same sci-fi fantasy smear of generic character archetypes with glowing runes and nonsensical hero shooter worldbuilding. Kind of vacuous sludge where you get the fire guy who says some shit like "I'm turnin up the heat!! woo!!!"
