Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

I’ve learned in last 24 hours:
1. The human ear is sensitive enough to detect particles moving as little as 1/10th the radius of an atom.
2. Lantern fish are significant enough an impedance to sonar that they can appear to be the sea floor.
3. Military manuals > scientific papers for TTRPG design

@es-de.org hey, I installed the latest update and it really made my day. The play time tracking plugs nicely into my game dashboards.

I'd like to pitch in a bit, but would prefer not having to deal with patreon again. Do you also have alternative ways of donation?

I once downloaded a little twenty-page pamphlet game whose PDF was named "firstedition.pdf", which tells me very little about its contents, but a whole lot about its author's ambitions.

Mind-blowingly rare first editions of esoteric books that I got to hold yesterday (courtesy of Justin Sledge), #1 of 5:

Meric Casaubon’s “A True and Faithful Relation” (London, 1659), the legendary OG account of the Enochian magic of John Dee and Edward Kelly.

Fall is here and many of you may be shopping for an overcoat.

Let me show what you can get as you move up the price ladder. 🧵
Here are four overcoats.

— Which do you think is the most expensive?
— Which do you think is the least expensive?
— Which do you think provides the best value?

Answer below. Tomorrow, I will show what you get as you climb up the price ladder for overcoats.

However, some of the cost cutting comes from stuff you can't see.

Suit jackets, sport coats, and overcoats are typically made with multiple layers of material, which are used to give the garment shape (otherwise, the coat would be very limp, like a t-shirt).

I love how technology lets us efficiently do work in minutes in a parallel process that would normally take hours individually.

I do not need ‘tricks’ to turn 5 minutes of work into 4 minutes.
