The reflexive need to prove yourself superior to fiction by sneering at it is a cheap way to suck the power out of even the best work. The flip side is that you effectively make yourself impervious to true beauty and horror.
You can laugh at a premise for a story, but a premise usually doesn't tell you much of anything about a completed work, and can easily be twisted to sound bad. This is particularly true with satire or work that takes risks.
