Lovely earth lass seeks helpful hitchhiker to stick a thumbs up to the cosmos and get her off this rock. Good at history. Tolerable company. Almost, but not entirely, unlike a computer literate amoeba. I don't know where my towel is... I have problems.

Just confirmed a long-held suspicion that the vendor I used to use for Fashion Plates for the Collection I curated was tearing antique book apart to get the prints.

I am fuming.

This whole thing fascinates me. I don't know what to make of it. It's amazing to me that for most of my life I had never heard of it, yet it is such a huge thing in Orthodoxy. The enthusiasm on everybody's face is electric. Would be worth going to see for that alone.

Jesus knows what it's like to be falsely accused. He knows what it is like to not receive due process. He knows what it is like to be deprived the right to a fair trial. He knows what it is like to face punishment you did not deserve.

His death is the eternal promise that there WILL be justice.

I choose to avoid politics on here. But I do want to say some obvious things.

People are entitled to due process. Always.

Police killing, instead of bringing people in for trial, is a violation of habeas corpus.

These rights are for all, even non-citizens and your enemies, or they are for nobody.

Can we please not forget that ALL the people sent to the El Salvadoran prison deserve due fucking process? ALL of them. Every single one of them.

The first posy in a thimble I made, to lift my mood during the pandemic. The flowers are all real.

When humans look at plants (even on a screen as here) we recover from stress 60% more quickly & the relaxation response is triggered in our brains.

Became suspicious early on and moved to a new vendor, but couldn't resist the chance to test him on it. Doesn't he realise the books were bound by the family who bought them, the binding can be replaced it's not part of the original periodical? Taking the plates drops the value of both dramatically.

Because it's April Fools, and the world is imploding, I decided to go in for some old-fashioned gentle tomfoolery to lift the mood. I snuck into the kitchen and swapped the labels on the spice rack.

I'm not in trouble yet, but the thyme is cumin.

Sudden childhood flashbacks: mother's fave tablecloth got red wine stained. She was distraught until a guest mentioned the white wine thing, and she had some in the fridge (unusual in our house). Saw that stain disappear right before my eyes. I'll never forget it. Tears to joy on my mother's face.
If you've got a red wine stain
on the carpet, a great tip is to take some white wine and drink that until you don't care anymore.

Having spent the last 30 months extremely isolated and unwell, with only my mother for company, I find myself surprised by how regularly the average person uses swearwords. I feel like I am a fish in an unfamiliar stream. Did I change or did everyone else?

Love this purple lady from 1799. I was convinced she must be later given how neat her up-do is compared to her contemporaries (see comparison).

But take a look at her reticule! A thing of beauty! A picnic basket full of filigree and carved agate cameo cabochons of Ancient Greek athletes. Lovely.

I love when you find idiosyncrasies in fashion plates. It may be that a worker was just in a hurry to get to the end of the working day, or that they didn't read the description so just made it up. This plate is for Les Dammes et Les Modes 1799, and is called The Pink Hat. Which do you like better?
