In this work, we developed an adaptable methodology to calculate accessibility with a particular focus on traffic danger.

What we found here is eye-opening: Children’s walking accessibility to their essential destinations drops by more than 75% when traffic danger is applied!

But while these large cars may be good for those on the inside, they are more dangerous for other drivers in smaller cars, cyclists and pedestrians.

*A really big problem in tiny Trinidad and Tobago!*

Why large cars are a public health hazard, according to one expert
Four in five cars sold in the United States last year were either SUVs or pickup trucks. That's a far cry from even the 1990s when that number was closer to 25% of all sales.

Is your neighborhood really kid-friendly? In this episode, we explore how traffic and poorly designed streets are robbing children of their independence. Hear from two leading researchers on why kids can’t roam freely anymore and what needs to change to create safer, more accessible cities for all.
Thank you @expeditionworks.bsky.social for the chance to discuss children’s accessibility to their daily destinations with my amazing PhD supervisor @owenwaygood.bsky.social. We focused on how traffic danger is a major barrier to children’s mobility and independence!
Congrats!

Nice story. The joy of e-cycle tourism in the UK:

“When I first took the bike, Clare said that e-biking makes you feel like a child again; the joy of pedalling along with effortless ease. As I flick the power up a notch and freewheel downhill, beaming at no one, I know exactly what she means”
All scenery and no sweat: an e-biking adventure in the New Forest
The New Forest is a haven for cycling – and whizzing through the trees on an e-bike leaves more time for ice cream and cake breaks
