It's iOS 26 release day today! To mark the occasion I did a lil' miniblog about a secret CSS property Apple made for themselves to use Liquid Glass effects on web content: alastair.is/apple-has-a-...

the new safari in ios 26 isn’t too bad once you get used to it - it’s an extra tap for some actions but if you already know the swipe up from the address bar gesture to see all tabs, it’s pretty manageable

just realised how ios 26 manages to add specular highlights to icons that are already white - they're using HDR so it can actually go beyond regular white

in an unexpected plot twist, i actually prefer UIKit over SwiftUI 🤯

i’ve been prototyping an iOS app to explore apple’s liquid glass. got started with SwiftUI cuz i thought as it’s declarative it’d be easier (from my web background). after hitting some walls, tried UIKit & was surprised i prefer it

BCNY seems to believe people want a browser that does the browsing for them, get them the result ASAP - but for me personally, the joy of using a browser is in browsing the web itself

Also kinda ironic for 'The Browser Company' to make a product that makes people browse less
