1. i agree with the author's theory - webviews has a bad rep because you don't notice the well-integrated ones

2. safari doesn't support svg displacement maps, the easiest way to implement glass and lensing effects on the web currently, but has this private css property to do almost the same thing

this whole experience reminded me that “newer” doesn’t automatically mean “better for your specific needs.” sometimes the older, more foundational tool gives you the freedom you need

💭 my takeaway: pick the tool based on what you need, not just what's new or familiar.

🧩 SwiftUI is more like building with only a React component library AND you have no way to see or edit its source - okay until you need something the authors didn’t anticipate, then you’re stuck, or need some elaborate workarounds

an analogy from my experience so far:

🛠️ UIKit feels like building with vanilla HTML/CSS/JS - almost complete control over positioning, styling, and behaviour. you can push design boundaries without fighting the framework, but you need to define them yourself
