On the Yimby housing/transportation front, biggest thing is probably single stairwell. Rejoining regional ghg initiative good, even if specific policies needed.

Someone from Rosemont Civic class they didn't oppose bike lanes, because "shared bike/car lanes" are possible.

All non highway lanes are 'shared car bike lanes' also known as general travel lanes. Sharrows don't create a different lane they're just a reminder of where to expect bikes.

They object to consolidating the Z4H reforms into a single bill. These are the same people who objected to one of the reforms on the grounds that their neighborhood was singled out. Their bad faith knows no bounds.

Has anyone done a deep dive on the Arlington Supervisor election results?

This supports my skepticism that rental software is a significant factor in keeping rents up, as compared to limits on supply.
I think this is mostly San Francisco finally shrugging off the pandemic, but it is *really* funny that rent prices in San Francisco shot up *immediately* after the city banned RealPage and other algorithmic price setting software.

My pre trends are incredible!

My fault for not showing up? (I've had a lot going on). Why we need to keep plugging away on supply and urbanism generally, even when the outreach focus is different.

Sigh.
the thing about cars is people have no respect for what cars can actually do in terms of damage, and you’ll see this even among people who rightly get mad about lack of gun control

I think the quirkiest place I've ever lived was Baltimore (in the late 1980s, so while I was in a gentrified name, there were still plenty of the working class whites with "hon" accents, etc) I grew up in pre hipster Brooklyn, but as a native I can't necessarily recognize the quirkiness.

Some brief points re Braddock Road

Braddock Road from Russell to West has fast traffic and dangerous conditions.

Safe walking and biking is especially important there because of the metro station and trails.

Numbers noted.
1800 residents in Rosemont. 60-some-odd people voted against replacing parking spots with bike lanes.

I don't think I need to say more
“We don’t have a national housing crisis, we just have housing shortages making housing unaffordable in most of our largest cities, with spillover effects being felt in many places all over the country”

is one of those statements that I guess is technically true in a meaningless way

I won't be attending this for reasons I won't share here, but its a good event, and I do hope my advocacy for street safety honors all the victims
World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is this Sunday. 1 in 100 Americans die in car crashes, including the author's friend.
Traffic victims all over the world will be remembered Sunday. One was my friend

Best response to today's news that Ive seen.
What Dems need to do is shore up mutual aid networks between now and the next expiration. They need to help constituents prepare for an even longer shutdown next time. "We underestimated the GOP's commitment to starving your family. We won't make the same mistake again."

I regularly see people running and walking in bike lanes, even when there's an immediately adjacent sidewalk. It never occurs to me to argue against sidewalks for that reason. The fact that some less experienced people choose to ride a bike or scooter on a sidewalk instead of the bike lane isn't

I hope Mamdani is conciliatory enough towards the many liberal new yorkers who had deep concerns and advances the good policies on housing and transportation ny needs. The larger victories of Spanberger and the oft derided Sherrill in more Republican places suggests the path to future Dem victories

Iiuc, there are things Mamdani was asked to repudiate more clearly than he did and i have friendsin NYC, liberal Dems, very concerned. While I hope Mamdani proves a conciliator, i think attacking Schumer for ́not endorsing, as if this shows Schumer is a bigot, is a bit much.
Schumer had a chance to repudiate the gutter racism and Islamophobia of Cuomo's campaign and he just fucking didn't. And that is disqualifying. He should be ashamed and we the voters should make sure he feels that shame.
Reporter: Today is election day in New York City. Did you vote for Mamdani or Cuomo?

Schumer: Look, I voted. And I look forward to working with the next mayor to help New York City.

FYI
DRCA is walking the Braddock bike lane proposal with city staff this Thursday at 10am - shoot me a note if you want to join. I intend to bring my million pound e-bike and make them ride the right angle from the bike lane onto the PY trail around those bollards

Because a lot of folks on this site are holding up Z and his
approach as the future of the party, the rebuke to the establishment, etc, and ignoring how different NYC is from swing states and districts. Seems reasonable to provide some reality.
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.
