As a future cardiac sonographer, I might not give diet plans, but I’ll use what I’ve learned about nutrition to educate, encourage, and connect with patients about heart health. Small convos can plant big seeds. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This semester, I have learned that before trusting any nutrition post, I’ll check if it’s backed by credible sources and created by a qualified professional, like a registered dietitian (RD) or healthcare expert. Reliable info matters! 🥗📚 #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

With what we've been learning this semester, I found this article very fitting. Understanding macros, carbs, proteins& fats is key to balanced eating. It explains calorie content and sources, making nutrition simpler. A great read for making better informed food choices. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Counting macros? Here’s the truth: macros are calories! Carbs, protein, and fat all provide energy, just in different amounts. Instead of obsessing over grams, focus on variety and balance. Want a better way to approach nutrition? Read more here: www.shelleyrael.com/blog/macros-...

I think post aligns well with this weeks lesson on ultra-processed foods. Most times we grocery shop on autopilot, and we buy not so healthy options. We learned this week that even though the label says "Organic", it doesn't mean healthy. So lets try to be more mindful of reading labels. #beh353

Tom Carroll was able to focus more on controlling his environment and less on willpower. He showed us there's power in intentionally eliminating your triggers and making the healthy choice your default. So, I plan to help teach my patients how to design a healthy life. #BEH353 @beh353.bsky.social

I thought this article lined up nicely with this weeks lesson. It’s teaching people how eating during certain time frames can help with weight management. Front loading calories allows for the food to burn off during the day rather than at night in bed. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This week’s fact is “90% of kids eat lunch at school.” Sounds simple, but schools nationwide are helping to shape how 90% of kids will grow up and decide to make healthy eating choices or not. It super important to not just tell people to eat better, but teach them how. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

I think this a good reminder, to not get stuck in the number calories. Calories are important, but more important than that is nutrient density. Lets be more picky about our nutrient intake. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This weeks reading, I related to the "Unhealthy diet of friends/family". It can be harder to stick to healthy eating, when those around you are eating everything your trying to avoid. Having people around you on the same journey, its easier to keep each other accountable #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Recently, I started adding the supplement L-glutamine to my daily routine. Its an amino acid that plays an important role in muscle growth, muscle recovery, immune function, and intestinal health. Its naturally found in foods like meat, fish, eggs, and dairy. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Spinach is one of my main ingredients to my fruit smoothies, so its great to know the breakdown of how power packed spinach really is! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social
Spinach is one of the most nutritious foods you can eat. It’s low in calories but high in vitamins, nutrients and filling fiber — making it a superfood. Plus, spinach is more flavorful than lettuce but less bitter than kale. It’s also very easy to use in a variety of dishes.

I am personally a fan of eating cabbage, but a fad diet I can't get behind is the 30-day cabbage soup diet. Apparently, people can lose up to ten pounds a week. Sustaining that when returning to a balanced diet is very unrealistic. #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

Our food choices, can effect our moods. Which why its important for us to be intentional about what we are putting into out bodies. Mindful eating in my opinion, is a form of clean eating. As we know, food has a direct cause-and-effect relationship on our health. @beh353.bsky.social #beh353

My favorite go to quick lunch idea is usually, a sliced turkey sandwich wrap, with cheddar cheese. To make this more nutrient dense, I opted for a carb wise wrap, grilled chicken, feta cheese, spinach, and some balsamic vinaigrette. Even more filling! #beh353 @beh353.bsky.social

This week, after writing down what I ate in a day, I wasn't very surprised by the outcome too much. I usually meal prep, so I am aware of what I eat throughout the day. This exercise did help me realize that I am not drinking enough water and that I need to cut back on coffee @beh353 #beh353

A fun fact from this week, is that all inflammation isn't bad. We need essential fatty acids like Omega-6 and Omega-3, to help with wound healing and building muscle. When I often thought of inflammation, I connected it to chronic diseases and bad gut health but that's only half true @beh353 #beh353

I find this article interesting because the use of the %'s and "reduce cancer risk" draws you in, but in reality switching to a plant based diet is not the cure to cancer. How proactive is a plant-based diet really, if were only seeing such low reduced risk percentages? @beh353 #beh353
