The final episode of Hush is out today, episode 8: "The Allure of an Answer."

Every podcast I finish, I think it's the hardest thing I've done as a journalist. This time that might be the most true. Someday soon, I'll tell you why.

Would also like to give flowers to my friends @yarknevets.bsky.social & Nalin Silva who worked their magic behind the scenes to make this podcast sound amazing (in addition to another podcast you might've heard called The Evergreen, for which they've tolerated many a chaotic JC Audition session) 💐

In 1975, some classic movies like "Jaws" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" made film history. But another movie came out that year that's lesser-known but incredibly impactful. It is the first film performed entirely in American Sign Language, and it was made in Oregon.
Portland-filmed ‘Deafula’ was the first feature-length movie in ASL
Fifty years since the Dracula-inspired film premiered, producer and actor Gary Holstrom shares how Deaf cinematic history was made in Oregon.

The Hush team looks at the ways police focused on two men in Sarah Zuber's life and how a true crime trope took police down the wrong path.
‘Hush’ Episode 4: Boogeyman
Typically, true crime stories tell tales of women killed by the men in their lives. And in the early days of the Zuber investigation, close attention was paid to the two men in Sarah Zuber’s life: her father, Randy, and her 17-year-old boyfriend, Vishal Christian.

Listening to the Nch’i-Wána region’s Native perspectives reveals a refreshing framework for understanding Bigfoot. Not as a being to be found and captured. Rather, as a spiritual guide that helps shape daily conduct, relationality with the land and a deeper connection with one’s self.
From legend to relative: Indigenous Oregonians share Bigfoot’s true spirit
