I found this Emerald Tanager taking a bath in a dry leaf full of water. It spent a long time preening and drying out afterwards.

we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

You must admit it's remarkably serendipitous for the fossil fuel industry that, just as demand began dipping, Big Tech came to the rescue.

The Baird's Tapir has a mutualistic relationship with the endangered Jicaro danto tree. Found only in the mountains of northern Costa Rica, the fruits of this tree are very tough and only tapirs can bite through them. The tapirs are the primary way the seeds of these trees are dispersed.

Variable Seedeaters are found throughout Costa Rica. If there are grasses, you'll find these birds.

Birders and guides ignore them because of their ubiquity, but I just love them. This is the male that was checking me out this morning at @tapirvalley.bsky.social #CostaRica

Continuing my reading of LGBTQIA (m/m) romance novels, and nearly done with this gem.

And let me tell you, with characters in their late thirties, it's refreshingly *not* a coming of age trope.

Instead, we get a story that centers on mature, emotionally intelligent, and accountable characters.
