In elementary school people had to write a story about the Talking Pets They Wanted
Most said dog or cat some said guinea pig/hamster
I said screw that I want a Parrot
Not gonna Poach One tho
The rising demand for African grey parrots and the price for a single bird — as much as $7,000 — drive rampant poaching.

An estimated 1.3 million were traded from 1975-2015, but the true number taken was likely far higher because most die in transit.

I kinda figured this narrative would be rewritten.

Who is actually a single mother in the US no longer fits old models of poverty and blackness.

How women over 30 are rewriting the single mom narrative in America
Forty percent of babies in the U.S. are born to unmarried mothers. Increasingly, those moms are over 30, at a time when teen pregnancy has fallen off a cliff and births are declining for younger women...

In 1994, 10% of women (ages 15-44) would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. In 2025, it was 40% of women (41% of married women; 45% of single women). But only 19% of men of the same ages.

Don’t really have time for the “no one’s doing anything on climate, we’re doomed” people to now pivot to “we’ve gone from 3.6C to 2.6, still doomed.” You do not declare a war over because you haven’t won after the first handful of battles. That is called “surrendering”

Black American soldiers literally dug these WWII graves. Traumatic. To acknowledge that fact at a cemetery they helped construct is something the Heritage Foundation cannot accept. As Veterans Day approaches, never forget that this country both compels and disrespects Black military service. Always.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Last night, we saw Democratic victories across our nation. I am so proud of these enthusiastic, principled, inspirational leaders who will continue to fight for our nation, ideals, and progress.
