The thing to remember about writing 'rules' is that there actually are no rules.

There is grammar and style guides but beyond that, it is all subjective taste and trends and genre conventions.

Writing is an art and art has no universal and enduring rules.

Every Book Lovers dream is to have a secret library that we can escape to, and not just because of the aesthetic, but mainly because we just want everyone to STOP. TALKING. to us while we read!

I would love to fill Bluesky with stories of inspirational teachers, librarians, reading helpers, carers. Who were the people who changed your life by reading aloud to you, sharing stories & books? What are your best memories of being read aloud to? #literacy #reading #books #EduSky

I don't believe in "good reading" & "bad reading". Comic books, graphic novels, manga, picture books, joke books, sports reports, all kinds of poetry & prose: it's all reading, and it's all good! Let kids read for pleasure - and they'll be readers FOREVER! #reading #literacy

CHOICE is key to becoming a reader. When kids are given a wide range of books to choose from, and are allowed to choose freely - THEY READ! I don’t believe in “reluctant readers” - just readers who haven’t yet found the right books for them. So it’s our job to help them find those books! #literacy

I can never understand why children's books get left out of "great book" lists. The books we call "children's books" are really books written for an audience that includes children, but excludes no-one. They are books for EVERYONE - and if you exclude them, you miss the most important books of all!

After having spent an inordinate amount of time on X, one thing that is now abundantly clear is that WE ALL KNOW HOW TO SPELL OVER HERE.

I wondered why the writer in me has been so calm these past few weeks.

Pat yourselves on the back, people. 💙 😁 💞

I’m rereading The Great Gatsby, and I’m happy to see that even in 1920s literature, “rich white football player” was synonymous for “huge piece of shit”

My primary school classmates are having a reunion soon and were sharing memories in the event chat about being smacked by the teachers. One student for taking too long on the toilet and another for taking a lip smacker out of someone’s bag. How did these teachers cope when smacking was outlawed ??

Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER!
