„At a time when the majority of Americans distrust big tech and believe artificial intelligence will harm society, Silicon Valley has built its own network of alternative media where CEOs, founders and investors are the unchallenged and beloved stars.“

How big tech is creating its own friendly media bubble to ‘win the narrative battle online’

Hi. I wrote an essay about AI slop: How it feels like an invasive species for the internet. How its boosters describe building a future that’s devoid of craft. How frictionlessness can be nihilistic & how this stuff seems to leach part of our shared humanity out of the world. I hope you'll read it.

I really want to see someone write a critically reimagined review of the entire tech landscape from, say, 2004 to the present, as primarily being an architecture for marshaling and directing harassment.
For @spitfirenews.com, I found that increasingly realistic AI-generated videos are being deployed to harass, smear, and create endless offensive content of influencers, whose likenesses are already readily available online. It’s happening to private figures, too.

AI-generated influencer scandals are here
Now anyone can play with the hyperrealistic likenesses of public figures.

"Some claim EU digital law holds back innovation. But there’s nothing innovative about exploiting children to maximize profit. What’s truly groundbreaking is designing apps and games that take children’s rights and well-being seriously."
What is the role of law in regulating social media’s impact on children?

Read my blog post on Media@LSE where I discuss some improvements necessary in EU digital law to better protect children's rights and well-being:

I'm organizing an evening at Spui25 on cybernetic capitalism, based on the book. With contributions from some great panelists--Daniel de Zeeuw @ddzeeuw.bsky.social, Iris van der Tuin, and Michael Miller--and poetry by @maximegarc.bsky.social. Drop by on 25 March, 20:00!
