Retired. Traveler. Nature-lover.

The name “world tripper” had a very different meaning before I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. I hope my travels are not over.

So we all know that plants take in CO2 and give back oxygen. (It’s actually more complicated than that, but that’s another thread.) They use the carbon to build stuff like stems and roots and so on.

A fascinating thread on native plants and prairies and carbon sequestration. No seriously, it’s really interesting!

Fiiiine, apparently half my readers enjoy an info dump, so here we go!

Grasslands Sequester Carbon Too or “Why trees are not the be-all and end-all.”

Ahem. *takes a sip of water*
I THINK they’re mad because of the hardscaping? Not entirely sure.

(One guy tried to claim it didn’t store CO2. Do you want a lecture on prairie carbon sequestration? Because this is how you get a lecture on prairie carbon sequestration.)

Let this sink in: President Trump still hasn’t imposed tariffs or sanctions on Russia, but has dispatched the military against his own citizens.

After WWII, Karl Jaspers is associated with the quote: "That which has happened is a warning. To forget it is guilt. It must be continually remembered. It was possible for this to happen, and it remains possible for it to happen again at any minute. Only in knowledge can it be prevented."

"The state of the bats in North America" report is now published & it doesn't look good for bats. 153 spp (CAN/USA/MEX) and 53% are at a moderate to very high risk of extinction in the next 15 years. #Frightening #ActionNeeded

I love these early autumn days. The air just somehow “feels different”, and I don’t mean just the temperature.
This kind of day always makes me think that it’s good to be alive.

It’s clear now why I found this Olympics/ Paralympics so captivating. Aside from their own merits, which were substantial, they provided an escape from the election and multitude of other problems of the world. I could focus on the world coming together in peaceful competition.
So very refreshing!

What a high bar Paris has set here. What a contrast between the beauty, class, and culture of Paris and the beach, skateboard park, and rap music of LA.
Thank you, Paris !
