These silly distractions force discussion and move the narrative.
Sometimes Trump comes up with things so extra monumentally stupid even I’m at a loss for words. He wants to take away Veterans Day. He thinks WWII ended on May 8th. This is all so ridiculous. At what point do Republicans admit Trump is insane?

Trade deficit. I have bought food from say, Chilis. They have never bought food from me.

There is a trade deficit with Chilis. I’m still doing fine.

The trade deficit argument SOUNDS compelling, but it’s a straw man with no relevancy

The Democrats need to end their vacation and get the hell back to D.C. THE NATION IS ON FIRE. Elon Musk is sending a hit squad of young men ( including a 17 year old recent high school grad) to seize our personal information and fire employees. Do your job Dems. We need you right now. #ProudBlue
Hey everyone. It’s Feb 3rd, and the Democrats have been at home since Jan 24th because the house is out of session.

They should have come back, the place is on fire.

Get suing, messaging, demonstrating, speaking, everything and ANYTHING

📌LISTEN TO ME MEDIA: We have had enough of the breaking news of Musk knocking down the doors of our govt. and accessing OUR information. We get it. It's terrible.
We are now at the WHY stage of this story.

📌Please tell the American public WHY Trump is doing this, and the peril EVERYBODY is in.

This is not just a coup and a Constitutional crisis. It is a national security catastrophe for the United States from which there is no assurance we will ever fully recover. Not hyperbole. If foreign enemies had landed troops on our shores it’s unlikely they would’ve done as much damage as fast.

Many Democrats appear to be in thrall to the idea that the public is carefully monitoring their reaction to events, and if they react stridently, they'll be blamed for overreacting.

But in reality, the public uses their reaction TO LEARN ABOUT EVENTS, and if they underreact, the public won't learn
Their current strategy appears to be the exact opposite, preaching calm and normalcy. That is a losing proposition for both them politically and for the American people and government constitutionally given this *ACTUALLY IS A CRISIS* and needs to be treated as one.
Here is what Democrats can do:

-we live in a crisis-driven media ecosystem
-a sense of crisis results in diffuse public attention - normally spread across many communication channels - focusing on a single problem, bringing massive pressure to bear
-Dems can help create a sense of crisis

No one's blaming Democrats for causing this crisis, but yes, many of them are failing to meet this moment.

One Democratic senator could bring the chamber to a halt. House Dems can go to fed agencies being gutted by Musk with cameras in tow. Governors can push back. State AGs can bring lawsuits.

Absolutely. We have a fascist government coming into power. It plans to implement Project 2025. Our media has a duty to the people to be honest about what we have ahead of us. So far, the media has been complicit.

We also need the current administration to end its silence, and be honest with us.

I understand hating opinion columns, I say this as an opinion columnist, but reporting is good and if American democracy is going to survive we desperately need reporting to expose corruption.
