Hello world! My friend and I are opening an independent bookstore and art space in northern Virginia. We've made tons of great connections already, but we'd be grateful for any help folks can give--including a signal boost! #IndieBookstore

While we’ve both been called quite contrary (as well as less polite things) and are quite proud of it, OUR garden grows through the help of friends, established and new!
Compare a display from our first ever pop-up just two weeks ago (is THAT all it’s been?!) with last night’s. Our garden is growing! #IndieBookstore

If you are a Black woman who was online talking about race and class and gender and politics? Your feed was full of bigots incited by TPUSA and the precursors since social media existed. Bluesky has some folks forgetting what actually happened to BIPOC creators on Twitter

IT HAPPENED. WE SOLD A BOOK. And then we sold another. And then another. And then still more! We’re bona fide.
We love that the first book we ever sold was Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert by Bob the Drag Queen and we love that we sold it to Stuart Holt, President and CEO of ArtsFairfax, a cherished supporter of ours. WE’RE BOOKSELLERS!!! #BookSky #IndieBookstore

We stopped by Settle Down Easy Brewing, where we’ll be having our Maker Monday pop-up bookstores every Monday in September starting on the 8th. It’s such a great space and we’re so thankful to the owners for giving us an opportunity to build our business! #IndieBookstore #MakeSomething

More than this is that they have been actively antagonistic.
it's truly wild that the Democrats have watched all the protest movements of the past few years and seen it as an opportunity to cultivate zero young leaders

Wow! I can’t believe we’re already doing this—but we are! We’ve got the books and other nifty stuff ready to go. #BookSky #IndieBookstore

I had a professor of Jewish Studies at UChicago who made the administration very angry because every year he made a proposal for the university to create an on-campus memorial to the worldwide victims of the UChicago economics department.

You could call this poetic justice, that the university that did more to foster extreme neoliberalism than any other is now being punished by that very ideology coming home to them, except that the UChicago economics department will be protected at all costs. It's the others who will suffer.
The University of Chicago has a debt of over $6 billion, against an endowment of $10 billion. They played with crypto. That's more than irresponsible.

Their board of trustees contains a surprising number of people regarded as financial geniuses.

Most Alexandrians respect law enforcement, but not ICE.
ICE does not respect due process. ICE deserves no respect.
If Sheriff Casey continues to cooperate with ICE, when his hand is not forced by a judicial warrant, he risks losing the respect of his community.

I'm seeing somewhat less stunned admiration of the problem, but still not enough suggested and ongoing courses of action. At various times as an organizer, I have talked about the gloomiest shit possible, but never without ending with an action item.

Not for nothing I think this is precisely why @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social’s encouragement to find people who are DOING something rather than telling you to BELIEVE something is pretty right on. Tenant, rank and file worker, pro-Palestine, etc organizers are on the move & seeing real opportunity.

There is nothing that gets my red flag meter going quite like men saying things like "it was hard meeting women because I was interested in (insert nerdy thing here)" when I have distinct memories of certain kinds of men in nerdy thing specifically and repeatedly excluding me from nerdy thing.

This. I cannot tell you how deeply I feel this. My primary experience of fascism, from Modi’s India to Trump’s US, is deep and complete boredom. The rule of mediocre angry men everywhere is not just murderous but insufferably boring.
Men are so boring about this. This and their mid-AI. It’s all so deeply boring. I would ignore it all if the combo of their silly sex obsession and mid tech weren’t dead set on killing us all.
