The President's Budget request as released yesterday will gut scientific research. Why should you care?
1) Science is fundamentally a jobs program. Many 100,000s are employed to do science and work for you, the US taxpayer.

let’s look back at what has happened so far

Cory Booker giving a 25 hour speech: everyone loved it, raised his profile

Van Hollen flies to El Salvador and meets Abrego Garcia: everyone loved it, raised his profile

Schumer publicly caved: everyone hated that

just a general note to Dems
i have no doubt that senator van hollen was genuinely concerned for the safety and welfare of abrego garcia BUT ALSO this is what i'm talking about when i say POLITICAL AMBITION. van hollen may well make himself a household name and nationally recognized political figure with this move

the cory booker thing works well not because it is impactful in any way to legislating but because it is cultural disruption

we’re all talking about it — and that’s why it’s important

trumpworld learned that lesson much earlier and it’s a big reason trump runs the united states today

Sorry for the normie take, but the EO's are actually enormously consequential and are in fact newsworthy for several reasons, including that many entities not bound by them legally either embrace them or recognize that obedience to them is necessary to avoid retribution.

I’ve been sort of idly keeping track of all the points in the Declaration of Independence’s bill of particulars that arguably apply to the Trump Admin. This is the first four-in-a-row I’ve hit. www.archives.gov/founding-doc...

Must-read. First, for the insights into administration dynamics.

Second, because we all know that legal records aren’t being properly kept, and this makes it very clear. Ordinary people get threatened and penalized over this. “Leaders” will not be.
In 25 years of covering national security, I’ve never seen a story like this: Senior Trump officials discussed planning for the U.S. attack on Yemen in a Signal group--and inadvertently added the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...
The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans
U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. I didn’t think it could be real. Then the bombs started falling.

Trump and congressional Republicans want to slash Medicaid to pay for billionaire tax breaks. In Virginia, that hurts:
• 62% of nursing home residents
• 31% of kids
• 1 in 3 births
• 319,000 people with disabilities

I will fight tooth and nail to prevent these cuts and stand up for Virginians.

FDR once bragged to a massive crowd at Madison Square Garden that the richest people in the nation hated him and “I welcome their hatred.”

Just weeks later, he was re-elected with 61% of the vote in a 523-8 blowout in the Electoral College.

Voters *like* politicians who make the right enemies.
The institutional Democratic Party is guided by an almost pathological level of conflict avoidance in almost every direction. “What can we do to make the least number of people mad?” is just a bankrupt way to operate.

Love making phone calls when driving.

Drive to work: call my congresspeople. Call them again if you get voicemail because the time isn't long enough to say everything.

Drive home: call my mother. If she doesn't pick up, call my congresspeople. If she does pick up, call them later.

Repeat.

Media, get this right.
If there's a government shutdown, it will be because the Republicans were unable to craft a bill that could pass, and they refused to pass a bill with any input from Democrats.

This is rare. We legitimately don't know if Senate Dems will stop the GOP bill or not. Normally we know ahead of time if they'll cave or fight. This is in flux. Pressure matters now. If you have a Dem senator, get all your friends in state to call today/tomorrow: indivisible.org/resource/cal...

There is a real, genuine 1st Amendment crisis in the United States right now.

The government is openly retaliating against anyone with a viewpoint it doesn't like: Pro-Palestinian protesters, law schools teaching Black History, pro-immigration public service loan forgiveness seekers.

Bernie Sanders is holding MASSIVE rallies in packed venues, bigger crowds than Trump was getting, and legacy media is practically silent. Bernie is talking to workers rather than hanging out with socialites with mediocre plastic surgery at Mar-a-Lago, and it's just not interesting to corporate media

Farmers are going to run to Congress for another handout to deal with the retaliatory tariffs and the answer from Dems has to be "no."

This isn't out of retribution, it's because we can't keep creating escape hatches for GOP members of Congress. For the benefit of all, keep the pressure on them.
