The thing is, “poppers” was a legitimate theory at first. The first few AIDS cases were discovered only in gay men, so a cause with a cultural link seemed plausible. That changed once more cases emerged and HIV was discovered. Why RFK Jr still believes it is a mystery to me.

I don’t know if the boat strikes are like that, or if the trigger pullers have enough information to know better.

If you’re an artillery commander, you just get requests to bombard map locations that are miles away. It’s up to the people sending the requests to ensure that your ordinance falls on enemy combatants rather than fleeing civilians. You aren’t committing a war crime if they make an illegal choice.

I’m not sure the people at the very end of the kill chain would have known enough about the context to judge the legality of the order. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, but trusting command to have their facts straight is. It would probably be a case-by-case investigation.

Fortran? Did you say Fortran???

Is Astronomy one of those sciences that is locked-in to Fortran because you all have millions of lines of perfectly good working code?

Yup. Between BLS and funding cuts to NIH and NOAA, lots of science papers over the next few decades will have to explain how they handled the “mid-2020s data gap.”

Do we know why she's doing all this? Is it that she wants to start some kind of public-interest law firm and those have to be owned by lawyers? If she just needs the credential for legal reasons and isn't planning to practice, then I'm not too worried about her legal education.

Alternatively, just admit that Bond could only do the things he does if he had superpowers and have him survive the blast.

In addition, longer loans are riskier for the lender--more opportunities to default, money tied up longer, and if fixed-rate there's an inflation risk. So 50 year loans would probably have higher interest rates, which could wipe out some or all of the advantage of spreading out payments.
