Pas Gaza 2025, mais Jaffa 1948, après la Nakba.

Members of my family were tortured and killed in the Holocaust because countries like Britain said it wasn't their problem. Everyone said never again. And here we are. It's sickening beyond belief.

Neoliberal destruction of the NHS

UK has 2.4 hospital beds per 1,000 people
Germany 7.6
OECD average 4.6

Worse in many places. Hackney in London 0.9, lower than Mexico. Bedfordshire 1.7, same as Colombia.

Sick people can't work. Can't boost GDP & productivity without better healthcare.
Our state has become a guarantor of corporate profits
Equitable distribution of income and wealth would go a long way towards stimulating domestic demand and investment...

The scale of suffering and bloodshed in Gaza is intolerable.

Alongside party leaders from across the UK, I have written to the Prime Minister demanding immediate action.

Parliament must be recalled to end arms sales, introduce sanctions and uphold international law.

An outstanding, thoroughly researcher and profoundly disturbing article. There may be a glimmer of hope that will come from the Sudanese who want to help and to build a nation for all, the many not the few. The seeds are being sown
Earlier this year, I made two trips to Sudan, where a terrible civil war has displaced 14 million people. The state is absent, international institutions are weak.Outside powers, motivated by greed and nihilism, have stepped into the vacuum

'Let's go fly a kite': Capturing wind for clean energy in Ireland
On Ireland's blustery western seaboard researchers are gleefully flying giant kites -- not for fun but in the hope of generating renewable electricity and sparking a "revolution" in wind energy.

It grovels to the racist right while dissing and imprisoning its own supporters.
The Labour Party under Keir Starmer has become the enemy of all that is decent and kind, the enemy of its own voters, the enemy of what it once was.

In Steve Rosenberg's engrossing and charming vignettes of Valentina he lays before us the wonderful Russian people whom we see and hear so little of. Thanks Steve and I hope you visit Kursk to give us further news of Valentina and the hopefully good outcome of her cancer treatment.
It’s three years since Valentina said goodbye to her kiosk in Moscow and moved back to Kursk. Here’s a reminder of her last day at work. For those who’ve been following her story I can tell you that Valentina remains upbeat & positive after her cancer treatment.

Grip of the state.

The UK is less open and transparent than Colombia, Denmark, Estonia, France, Ireland, Korea, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.

Weak parliament, press, civil society makes democracy difficult in a secretive state, facilitates elective dictatorships.

When the histories are written I fear that one portrayal of European leaders in 2024 and 2025 will be far more critical than that of 1938 and 1939. We are watching a masterclass on unnecessary weakness.

I can't believe it needs to be said, least of all to a Labour Government, but we should be tougher on genocide than peaceful protest against genocide.
