When the Patriot Act was passed, libraries got requests for patrons’ borrowing history. We were prohibited from disclosing those requests.
We deleted and shredded those records and stopped tracking reading history for that reason.

Being raised a Hmong American, far away from the mountains of my ancestors, this photo is a reminder that despite the thousands of years that separate us, there’s still a share culture, one that survived through all the genocides, the assimilations, and the wars we fought against our oppressors.
