Apricot Jelly (Guepinia helvelloides) is a salmon-pink, ear-shaped, gelatinous fungus and always reminds me of rose petals. Rubbery in texture, is edible, and may be eaten raw with salads, pickled, or candied. Fruit in the late Summer and usually after a heavy rain.

Our grandpuupy was over yesterday for a dog sitting adventure. Happy to announce he is now one year old as of Wednesday the 11th. Our son and DIL + friends had fun tubbing down some hills hours away from home. He is still a full time job. Always on the ball and never stops. Xoxo

Yellow staining milkcaps - Lactarius vinaceorufescens (I think) as they were found in a conifer forests and have a cinnamon coloured cap. White latex turns yellow immediately when exposed to air and considered poisonous.

I have never found Maitake but have eaten it and "yep" it's delish. On my bucket list and eventually I hope to find it. Not lack of trying trust me as we have driven hours to look for it. Often found at the base of oak trees in autumn. In our area we don't have many oaks.
Hen-of-the-woods, Maitake. Grifola frondosa. Choice edible.

Parasol mushrooms often form fairy rings/circles and is a forager favourite. It’s enormous, delicious, and often appears in great numbers. Because of the potential for a mix-up (the vomiter) a toxic lookalike, this mushroom is best for intermediate foragers.

It's been bitter cold in mid-western ON for the past 3 weeks ranging from -29c to -13c for a high mid day. My son got me this book a few years back that I forgot about. So as I'm waiting for morel season I might as well learn more about plants. Right now it's +1c and I'm loving it!

Lovely cluster of black footed polypore. When young the cap is light coloured, but always with that distinctive darker middle.
As the polypore matures, the dark centre gets darker and starts to spread to the rest of the cap. 👇

The snow on my arbour looks like the humongous elm oyster I found this fall. The snow scalloped so pretty - just like the cap on the mushroom. Lol getting cabin fever I suppose.

Ouch I got bit by a mushroom 😅

Bleeding fairy helmet - Mycena haematopus bleeds a red latex when damaged. A small but enchanting common fungus which grows on soft or hardwood. Super 😎 cool!!

I made some tin can/wax/ cardboard emergency heat/cooking source last week. OMG they burned too well and I had to move outside as I didn't want my house burning down. Good for outdoors - burned for almost three hours! Live and learn. Used leftover wax from bad candles.

Volunteers from my mush yard spreading to my flower gardens. I must of put some substrate or some butt samples in with the wood chips, I honestly can't remember? Nice surprise anyhow under some hostas. Large yummy wine caps.

A platter full of yummys. Homegrown shiitake, velvet shanks, and wood blewits. I leave them in the sun for 3-5 hours to raise the vitamin D - gill side up.

Homegrown nameko - Pholiota microspora from my mush yard. A slippery, gelatinous small mushroom - prized in Japan, falling just behind shiitake. They're a cold triggered mushroom that typically fruits in the fall months.

Stinkhorns - Phallus impudicus are astonishing, immodest and shameless 😂 They arise from an "egg" that results from the immature mushroom's universal veil, quickly breaking the "shell" and thrusting themselves up to heights of nearly 10 inches in a matter of hours!

Sunny day today - still freezing. My fridge has been running loud + thumps/cracks. It is older (13 years) which isn't that old as I have one downstairs that's almost 45 and works like a charm. I usually clean both once a year. Did a thorough clean even the hard to reach fan which was disgusting. 👇

Made some chaga tea yesterday and grabbed the rest from the fridge to make a hot drink. Extraction of the fungus chunks simmered in water until the dark colour is present. I re-use the chunks until they release no more dark colour. Chaga is a #medicinalmushroom . Added honey and a bit of lemon 🍋

Another freezing day and snowed in so I'm staying inside again 😒 Got started early this morning making chicken noodle soup to freeze. Dehydrated reishi from the fall along with my other ingredients - slowly simmer for a few hours before adding the main. Extra added immunity ❤️

Made 12 bagels today and the cheese ones turned out great, the jalapeno one's not so much? Lots of steps making them but it was a learning experience. I need a hug from bonhomme (the whole needs one) like Carney. A good natured man bonhomme stands for.

I told you guys the "mean girl post" he would do a few days back - that he would call our PM Governor Carney and hitting us with 100% tariffs. LOL what a twat! I thought the U.S didn't need anything from Canada?? I'm so proud of @mark-carney.bsky.social for not putting up with the deranged bully.
It’s posts like this that make Canada and other countries want to do deals with China and leave the United States all alone. This is the language of an abusive ex.

It's -26 c right now and my house is cracking from the intense cold. Not much snow in my area but other's got hit bad. I am going to attempt to make homemade bagels today with hubby and keep the fire roaring throughout the day.

Lovely pic. of a family of wine caps from my mush yard.
Stay safe ❤️

I'm so glad he is our PM. Level headed, calm, intelligent, humble etc. Mean orange girl post from dump --- incoming. 200% tariffs on Canada maybe? Quicker invasion? Maybe call him Governor of Canada?
Carney: "American hegemony in particular helped provide public goods, a stable financial system... this bargain no longer works. Let me be direct. We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition... recently, great powers have begun using economic integration as a weapon. Tariffs as leverage ... "

For #throwbackthursday our walk in the fall looking for hen of the woods as this forest has hundreds of oaks. No luck, but found the biggest coral #fungus ever - absolutely massive!!! Size of a beach ball. What a fantastic day! First picture Is when I spotted it.
