Now there's not one but two lawsuits out of suburban Greece (home to a powerful republican political machine) alleging town government officials planted GPS trackers on residents' cars in response to critics. Politics in metro Rochester are off the rails
Second lawsuit charges town of Greece placed tracking devices on citizens’ vehicles
Tina Bachman alleges the town of Greece placed her under surveillance after she raised concerns of town improprieties, making her the second person to file a federal complaint against the town in the ...

Yeah, because THAT is where the threat to "functioning democracy" comes from; not the actual Nazis who are running the federal government but the people being mean to the Nazis online. Bunch of pros they got over there at @washingtonpost.com pure talent

Something to look forward to is when the inevitable backlash against Trumpism begins and people like Kathy Hochul (who has been doing her best Neville Chamberlain inlression since the day after the election) try to retroactively portray themselves as having been Resistance Heroes
Ah yes, the fundamental error of the Dem mind: assuming that the public is somehow directly observing politics, and that the Democratic role is to react to the public's reaction, rather than help SHAPE the public's reaction
i think dems are waiting to see what the public's reaction is to the promises not being kept. i agree it's risky, but it's also risky right now to act like an outraged lib because there is a sense where when we act like that we're doing what far right media wants us to do.

We can confirm that it has been cold as hell here in Rochester and that the decision made by @seiu1199nw.bsky.social to postpone their picketing a few days was the right call. Hopefully URMHC will stop pushing its workers around and come to the table for real before this turns into a lengthy strike

The point being, of course, that there is literally nobody in America willing to take a job as Trump's attorney general who is worthy of being Attorney General (or even really just an Attorney)
The TikTok EO orders the Attorney General "to issue a letter to each provider stating that there has been no violation of the statute and that there is no liability for any conduct that occurred" in the 75-day window.

Anyone worthy of being AG would resign before carrying out such a lawless order.

This is the kind of thing we were referring to in a recent post, about Trump alienating the entire country in a record amount of time. But who knows, maybe we're wrong; and letting some insufferable, gazillionaire tech bro run riot through the entire federal government will be super popular
Exclusive: President Donald Trump’s order establishing the “Department of Government Efficiency” aims to give billionaire Elon Musk’s team sweeping access to operations at federal agencies, revamping its structure after competing visions left one of its leaders seeking an exit.
‘DOGE’ revamp empowers Musk as frictions spur Ramaswamy’s exit
Musk’s and Ramaswamy’s differing visions for DOGE led to Ramaswamy’s departure and Musk’s takeover.

Prisons in New York and the rest of the United States are frequently violent, corrupt and bereft of any transparency or accountability to see that the rights of the inmates are not just theoretical. It's long past time for change
Following the deadly beating of Robert Brooks Sr., prison reform advocates renew calls for change
In the first hour of "Connections with Evan Dawson" on Jan. 21, 2025, we talk with advocates for prison reform about their hopes for the justice system following the fatal beating of an inmate.

It's almost nauseating watching the party in DC right now. But the good news is that Trump and his party are so cartoonishly evil that the more they take, the angrier America will become; and once groups like the WFP @workingfamilies.org organize & channel that anger, project 2025 is totally screwed
January 20, 2025 at 10:50 PM
It must be nice to be so totally bereft of anything resembling a soul or a conscience that you're comfortable taking advantage of a horrific natural disaster to price gouge a bunch of newly homeless fire victims, in a city where housing costs are already out of control

The only thing more annoying than watching so many rich and influential people crawling on their hands and knees to DC to lick Trump's boots is listening to mainstream journalists talk about this revolting display of cowardice and greed like it's some evidence of statesmanship on Trump's part
The festivities planned for President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration next week symbolize a vibrant return to the White House — in contrast to his ceremony eight years ago, when his team struggled to book big musical acts.
Here’s who is performing at Trump’s inauguration
Trump’s inauguration performers include Carrie Underwood, Village People and Christopher Macchio.

Everybody do the bus stop! And by that we mean that It's a great time to get on board with @nywfp.bsky.social 's fight for greater investment in public transportation (though you are free to do the dance as well)

I currently serve as aide to East District council member Mary Lupien, it’s a huge geographic space to cover part time. (Both CM & their 1 allocated aide are part time)

More smaller districts would mean more time to build stronger connections to community but more importantly-
There aren't a lot of ways to deal with this problem without structural reforms. In the meantime, I encourage electing more independent candidates.

We are proud to have many of the key activists and leaders who fought so hard for this victory as chapter members. Without the efforts of CWTU activists like Lisle Coleman, Oscar Brewer, Ryan Acuff, our friends on city council would have been outvoted and the full Good Cause would not have passed

Back from a brief holiday hiatus to deliver to you the BREAKING NEWS that a short time ago, Mayor Evans signed the Good Cause eviction protections into law. Tenants in Rochester now have, for the first time ever, basic protections against unwarranted eviction and extortionate rent increases!!!

All we want for Christmas this year is for Amazon to stop screwing around and keep to the agreements they made with @sbworkersunited.org (after all it's not like Brian Niccol or any of their other execs are willing to don aprons and start pulling shifts to keep the stores running themselves)
day 1 was amazing.......
but wait until you see day 2 😏

Here's today's anchor pickets! While many more stores are going on ULP strike today, workers want you to turn out for THESE pickets! ⬇️
