Does this duck figure mean anything on Trump’s lapel or is it just bad AI?

Are there any genealogists using OpenStreetMap? Is it a good alternative for mapping historical rural United States locations?

I'd love to see all you genealogy bloggers including a "share" button for Bluesky! So many more platforms and hosting services are including it as an option. I added it to my blog - plus I ditched the one for that bird site!

The two biggest hurdles for me to #degoogle:
Maps - I have several pins of cemeteries & ancestors’ locations #genealogy
YouTube - I watch several content creators (Minecraft, Genealogy and Tech Tutorials)

Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons:

-We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S.

-The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous.

New York was also the first stop for most US immigrants in the late 19th-20th centuries. Many of their grandchildren qualify for dual citizenship-by-descent, particularly for NY's large Italian and Irish populations. If those files proving descent become inaccessible... 😬

Ok so I know Genealogy people care about this BUT think about the current citizenship threats and that will give you another reason people may want to be able get their hands on birth certificates and proof of when their country came here. We can't cut off/make these things inaccessible now.
Have you checked out our brand new website, all about the AWFUL proposed legislation that got snuck into New York's proposed budget, which would destroy public access to birth, marriage, and death records -- and even the basic indices?

Well, you should.

And we have FIVE DAYS to do something about it?!
