I have a reference to "American Archaeology", vol. 5, No. 1, pp. 27--34. I cannot find any reference to such a journal, and it doesn't appear to be any of the likely mis-cites like the American Journal of Archaeology. Any suggestions? [and before someone asks, no it isn't a chatGPT invention]. Ta

A rant. Are lecture theatres designed by people who have never attended a lecture? The current fad for double screens right next to each other is a pain. I like to move around, wave my arms about, be enthusiastic about my subject. With double screens you cannot use a laser pointer or ... 1/2

Spoke to the Baconian Club of St Albans last night on "Recent Surveys by the Community Archaeology Geophysics Group." They were a very welcoming group, and asked a lot of excellent questions. We had 40 minutes of discussion! Many thanks to Brenda for a lovely supper and Ellen for driving me there.

The grand memorial to William Cecil, Lord Burghley, 1598 in St Martin, Stamford. He was the chief adviser to Elizabeth I, an enthusiastic protestant who convinced Elizabeth to order the execution of the Catholic Mary Queen of Scots a few miles from here at Fotheringhay.

John Cecil, 5th Earl of Exeter, and his wife Ann atop their imposing 1704 memorial in St Martin, Stamford. They're dressed as wealthy Romans, and indeed their memorial was made in Rome by the sculptor Monnot. Pevsner
thought them 'comfortable and at ease'. 1/3
