This was the first time I had ever seen Lion’s Mane. During a mountain bike ride yesterday, I noticed this beauty. I was blown away by its size (close to two hands). Its structure reminded me of a frozen waterfall.

This stunning ghostly Mycena really spoke to me today. It has got to be in the top 5 of my favorite photographs I've been lucky enough to capture. I'll post her singularly. #fungifriends #macro #nature #naturephotography #forestfloor #fungi #woodland
This gorgeous Mycena, I forgot to sniff and it’s pretty degraded, so I can’t really say what kind. I’m still a newbie with that Family. Anyway, the gills are completely gone. I’m honestly surprised it survived the horrific rain we had a few days ago. It was sheltered by a hefty Evergreen Huckleberry bush and established conifer. The ghostly cap is lacking all gills and has an eerie bluish undertone. The stem is near translucent and is covered in tiny specs of insect frass....really a nicer word to say insect excrement or poop. There is unnatural lighting to the scene due to the usage of a portable white LED light used to illuminate the subject in a way that doesn’t seem natural to the brain. The narrow depth of field only allows for the stem and cap of the mushroom as well as a narrow slice of the dead horizontal moss-covered log it was sprouting from.

A gorgeous rosette of turkey tail. It is a medicinal #mushroom with a long history of use in traditional medicine. I make tinctures with it and is a very common bracket #fungi. I dried this one and made a brooch cause it was so darn perfect.

Another sweet little Lichenomphalia (L. alpina, I think) mushroom and its very visible thallus of green algae and fungal hyphae. Lichenomphalia species are basidiolichens. This little guy was about 2cm high. Newfoundland, Canada. #lichens #fungifriends
