The Supreme Court issued a stay, effectively ruling, for now, that the Constitution no longer applies, at least not to immigrants. Fast-track deportations with no opportunity for judicial review violate the fundamental principle of due process, especially for people already on U.S. soil.

A hallmark of the reactionary movement against it was also police unions and departments and their political allies making the propaganda push that they will stop doing their jobs if citizens aren’t nicer to them. The behavior of a protection racket, not a taxpayer funded service
I feel the mainstream of the country has memory holed so much horror, but I have never forgotten the way a movement to reform racist policing was beaten back, literally, with police violence, including violence targeting the journalists who tried to cover it.
