BA (Hons) in Ancient History, MA in Heritage with a focus on pseudoarchaeology, it's harms and how it spreads on social media. Archaeologist, Finds Generalist, and Curator. Also, all-round nerd, sword obsessed, and hobby woodworker.
Ready for a slightly rejigged day 2 at the @socmusarch.bsky.social conference due to rain affecting the trains!

Looking forward to another fascinating day!

Is there any way of reporting / recording possible modern copies of #Romancoins? I've just seen this one on a reddit post, and I have am almost exact copy (down to the same damage roughly) which was reportedly found in an attic by the new owner. The reverse on mine is the exact same 1/3

Any thoughts from my #archaeology colleagues on this structure? Found in the garden of a Georgian house & former Vicarage in Kent. There is a separate well in the basement and apparently this doesn't fill the well.

Out of curiosity have any #museumprofessionals used Generative AI to produce Museum documentation/grant applications or other documents yet? If so, how did you find it, was it received well by trustees / team members / funders? And how did you balance the ethics of using AI in your work?

A very well written and considered article as usual from Tess. Access to finds and knowledge is vital, not just for future research but to combat #pseudoarchaeology too.

In my role I try to share as much of the collections we hold as possible & working on increasing accessibility. 1/2

Not surprised but still disappointed to see History UK pushing out another Ancient Aliens style "documentary." Shame Bradley Walsh appears to be a believer in some of this BS. We know who built the pyramids because we have their own words telling us how they did it 😫 #egyptology #pseudoarchaeology

This is such an important point, I can't really put it much better!
Pseudoarch looks silly on the surface but it cracks open a very dangerous door, which in many cases is seen as an opportunity to push other ideological & political agendas. The past is powerful, and being critically aware of how it can be misused is one way we can *all* help slow that misuse.

Had an amazing time at #CAlive25 representing the Kent Archaeological Society. Lots of lovely conversations, friends caught up with and my specialism in #pseudoarchaeology was shouted out by Natasha Bilson!

We will definitely be back again next year!

Really fascinating to see how my undergraduate dissertation on the South Cave Weapons cache has been read by 256 people(!!!) While my MA dissertation on pseudoarchaeology, tartaria and conspiracy theories has 0. My undergrad was shared on a popular Yorkshire archaeology FB page, likely spreading it!

Really glad to see the AI + archaeology conversations happening, and Colleen brings to attention some very important considerations:
I wrote a brief article on the challenge that AI presents to archaeological visualisation. Check it out here:

theconversation.com/how-ai-image...

Though I have done a lot of scicomm, it was the first time I'd written for The Conversation. 🏺 +
How AI imagery could be used to develop fake archaeology
Even before the use of AI, it was widely accepted within archaeology that visualisations of the past are highly fraught and should be treated with caution.

Any of my #archaeology and #findspecialist colleagues able to help with this, what I believe is a token? Copper alloy, three crowns in a square shield. No inscription but some decoration outside the shield. Plain reverse (with bronze disease unfortunately).
