Like, yes, obviously it was always going to turn out to be pointless – this is Team Fortress 2! – but that could have been achieved simply by having the reason for it turn out to be incredibly stupid. They didn't *have* to get meta with it, and that they did feels like somebody is Making A Point™.

Given the length of the hiatus between issues 6 and 7 of the "Team Fortress 2" comic, I do wonder if "there was never a secret plan, the violence was always pointless and you never get to find out why" was always the plan, or whether they just couldn't think of anything that'd live up to the hype.

If somebody tells you it's cringe, don't deny it. Don't even own it. Reject the premise that "cringe" is a criticism in the first place. Tell them it's SUPPOSED to be cringe, as though they've made a very stupid mistake to presume that's a bad thing. Refuse to elaborate.

Honestly, part of why it irritates me when people act performatively shocked at the homophobia in 2000s media is it wasn't just media. "Can you believe this aired in 2008" buddy, in 2008 I was having shit thrown at me from moving cars for having long hair, and you wanna get worked up about sitcoms?

Honestly, part of why it irritates me when people act performatively shocked at the homophobia in 2000s media is it wasn't just media. "Can you believe this aired in 2008" buddy, in 2008 I was having shit thrown at me from moving cars for having long hair, and you wanna get worked up about sitcoms?
