We need 1,000s of small buses linking residential areas with termini, rail stations in #Chennai, but there is a greater policy focus on protecting entrenched lobbies like autos. Local economy suffers as a result. People spend a lot on travel, leaving less for goods and services @chennai.bsky.social

It's unusual that @thelancet.bsky.social commission on urban design, transport & health in 2022 found 92.5% people in #Chennai having access to walkability, when lived experience is different. A reassessment is called for!

New study examines 30 big US cities committed to Vision Zero, finding that 23 make abutting property owners (not the city) responsible for sidewalk maintenance.

Really hard to keep pedestrians safe when a city doesn't control its own sidewalks!
