This is one of my favourite Japanese prints, I love the atmosphere and sense of tranquillity. I was lucky enough to be able to visit Chionin Temple when I was last in Japan and I've included some photos in the reply below.

Day 1 of the #HooklandChristmasTree. We retrieve the Bloody Boy ornament from the box of china Mummers. Some say it's not blood that makes his skin red, but crabapple bark dye. I say best not spoil the seasonal magic. Besides, we all know where the skin of his drum comes from.

The First Window. It was a dark morning, freezing cold, the sky still heavy with stars. Everyone had slept in, even Old Fox. At nine, the Postman knocked on the kitchen door, an hour later than usual, complaining about his chilblains & his sciatica, & when he left, the long oak table was heaped with dozens of cards & a tall pile of Christmas parcels. "One for you, Wolf!" called Old Fox, "A large box! From Munich!" Wolf thundered downstairs. It was from his beloved old friend, Ulfric, a treasure chest of thoughtful Wolfish things wrapped in crumpled silver-gilt paper & slightly frayed grey velvet ribbons. Inside was a pretty card with a picture of a snowy village at night and schöne Adventszeit!* written in Ulfric's wavery, old-fashioned paw. "Best day," said Wolf, "this is my best day!" *Have a lovely Advent season!

Advent Sunday & London was bitterly cold and wreathed in a damp fog which smelt of underground rivers and coal smoke. The Dragon of Kensington Church Street, however, was exceedingly well wrapped up in a Sèvres blue muffler and matching mittens.

Chestnut feathers spark a memory of walking on Wynberg main road after a salon visit...red blonde copper highlighted long-haired child, catching a taxi home. A fabulous drunk/high soul leans out of a passing car shouting "Net vir jou hare meisie! Net vir hare!"

The whistles and warbles made for early rising just after sunset. Diverse bird song, in abundance, but the clever birds are just too fast and full of curious life to catch. More coffee and surrender.

It was half past six and pitch black in the hamlet when Peter woke. From his bed, he could still see a cold, white scatter of stars & there was noble Jupiter high and kingly and benevolent in the west. His mother had lit a fire in the little grate and he quickly washed and dressed and packed his satchel. Marbles and cigarette cards were as vital as his Latin homework, and were placed and checked with care. He had a good selection of cards to swap that week, courtesy of the Doctor, who always saved them up for him. He clattered downstairs to the kitchen and breakfast: porridge with cream and warm, white doorsteps and butter. His mother's breakfasts were always the best. She had the knack, like Old Fox and the Bears, of making even the most humble food taste delicious. When he wheeled his bicycle to the village road, the sky was lightening into that very particular blue of late November mornings and the grass was stiff and glittering with frost. "Be careful on the ice," called his Mother, and he called back, "I will!" and he was off, careering down the hill, the magnificent view of the village and the downs and sea before him, his breath billowing, face stung by the cold – oh, what it is to be young and happy on the sacred edge of Christmastide!
