I’m doing my best to keep this season light and magical, but parts have been so heavy since Thanksgiving. I’ve struggled to see the glimmers.

Musk has now poured $8.3 million into buying the tie-breaking Wisconsin Supreme Court seat for Brad Schimel. That is vastly more than any other single donor—to eliminate a state-level check on his and Trump's power.

This likely confirms that the decision to arrest him was made at the highest levels of government, a terrifying return to the policies of ideological exclusion last seen used during the heights of the Cold War. A very, very worrying precedent at the start of this government.

There were howls of protest and denial from the GOP any time we pointed out that Republicans want to cut Social Security.

Now the most powerful official in the White House goes on TV and calls it "the big one to eliminate."
Elon Musk says he wants to “eliminate” programs like Social Security and Medicare: “Entitlements... That’s the big one to eliminate”

This #internationalwomensday we can't help but think about how women's voting rights are once again under attack in the U.S.

The SAVE Act is designed to block eligible people from voting, not to protect elections.

Great advice in this thread!
I've been noodling a lot lately on academic freedom and the ability of faculty members to speak as individual faculty members

I get the impression that many are self-muzzling due for self-preservation purposes

This is a quick 🧵 on speaking out as an academic faculty member

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

Welp, that’s terrible. I hope Senators like @fetterman.senate.gov can start examining these occurrences and taking action.
At OPM, Musk’s staffers won’t leave—they work around the clock and have even installed sofa beds in the office. Our access to data systems has been restricted, raising serious concerns about cybersecurity and a complete lack of oversight. We are keeping our heads down and documenting everything.

Public 👏 health 👏 matters.
This is 67 cases--a tiny fraction of TB's global burden, which exceeds 10,000,000 active cases per year.

But the longer we allow a curable illness to infect and kill millions, the more TB we'll see in the U.S. Tuberculosis is an airborne disease, and TB anywhere is a threat to humans everywhere.
