"To understand the world, you must first understand a place like Mississippi." - William Faulkner

I was told by my Papa at a very young age that I lived in America, where we have freedom. I bought that line hard. So hard that when I was 19 and flailing around at life I enlisted in the Navy and found myself. I cried the day I graduated boot camp. Full tears.
It's not much, but I'm glad to have something to do other than doom

This, along with mass economic strikes, is the only way left before the unthinkable.
This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

On December 14, 2012, a mass shooter murdered 20 children, ages 6 and 7, and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut.

Four days later, evangelical author James Dobson claimed the mass shooting was God's retribution for abortion and gay marriage.

He died today at 89.

When bad people face the consequences of their actions, we don't have to defend them.
Please don’t make me be Team Free John Bolton. But I think that’s where we are headed.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

Obviously it's the act of a psychotic dictator, openly threatening his enemies with wanton disregard for the law and concept of justice.

But Bolton had a hand in making it happen, so there's a certain amount of karma here.

I think this is a fascinating article about an important book that everyone should read. It addresses trends in 5000 years of history and how society could collapse without real changes.

But I don't think the author will have trouble attracting an audience.

I love seeing posts like this and then remembering what happened to my pregnant wife after the car wreck.

She's fine. Baby's fine. But man we've never gotten out from under debt.
I see lots of complaints about our NHS so I feel good practise ahould be mentioned too. My doctor referred me for a scan. I had my hospital appointment today, two weeks later, they offered me last week but we had guests. I was in before my time, seen and out in no time. The NHS can be wonderful.

"Radioactive wasp nest!"

This gets clicks, but the story doesn't in any way live up to the hype it caused this week.

Nevermind that "radioactive" in this case meant higher levels than regulations for ONE nest, and posed no real danger. There were no wasps in the nest.

Media literacy, people.
