Having just survived #IAVCEI2025 in Geneva with 35degs, in a literal greenhouse, in a building that was fitted with aircon, but they "weren't allowed" to turn it on. Yes. THIS.
Also, heat pumps are great and perfectly suited for this.
This heat wave mortality graphic tells quite the story.

Europe needs to get over itself and start rolling out air conditioning.

You know you've ruined* your kids when you're on holiday and your 5yr old says "Mamma, is that a volcano...?" :) #notavolcano

And this is why geodesy matters. Want to know where your aircraft is the next time you fly? Guess what. Position information is important...
A tiny federal agency is tasked with maintaining vital spatial information -- things like latitudes, longitudes, even measurements of Earth’s gravitational field.

Trump's cuts to that agency might literally make measurements of the world less accurate.

Trump Cuts Are Killing a Tiny Office That Keeps Measurements of the World Accurate
A tiny but crucial agency that maintains physical coordinates like latitude and longitude in the US is struggling as the Trump administration forces out federal employees.

A word of caution: it might feel like that grant/paper/review cannot possibly wait over the Christmas period, but you can't get time with friends and family back. You likely won't be like "really wish I'd submitted that" in 5 years time but you might regret not spending time with those you love.

Yes! Exactly this! Thanks @seismatters.bsky.social for putting it into words. It's seen as a fun 'extra' thing to do in your spare time, or a half arsed 'broader impacts' on a grant, but the attitude of not spending time on it or it'll detract you from 'real work' needs to change. IT IS IMPORTANT!
