finally giving nick cave a real spin, 2016's skeleton tree was one of many very helpful albums for my griefs in the past, and abattoir/lyre always stuck with me since i first heard it in 2009 but i am so surprised at how the intensity between piano ballads and noisy freakouts is exactly the same

yo la tengo and cleaning off my record player dust cover. thank you to this album for reminding me of the simple pleasure of forgetting everything with music just stimulating enough to keep me from thinking about anything else and ambient enough to add a backbeat to the birds outside my open window.

i wrote a roundup on some of the media i had fun with last year! kept it relatively light; think of it more as a list with some short blurbs about each entry, than a collection of media critiques

ulver's assassination of julius caesar kicks ass but i really miss the experimental stuff they were doing beforehand.

flowers of evil is very much more of the same, lower highs, higher lows, very middle of the road but the lyricism is top notch

as much as I'm enjoying modern jazz, especially Sam Wilkes' and Sam Gendel's music circles, something is MISSING from these recordings that makes me less than love 'em. I'm pretty sure it's energy, but iunno
this is good tho' 👍👍👍👍

yes. critical analysis makes the journey to enjoyment and understanding easier and gives an extra platform to the piece that it critiques. it's a vessel.
Normalize not critiquing a piece of media unless you’ve actually watched/read it yourself.

Don’t just take reviewer’s words as gospel, take the time to form your OWN opinions.

Don't give in to pull of unnecessary urgency this week. There's no such thing as an urgent email and notifications are productivity killers. Give yourself time for deep thought, creativity, and careful work. Breathe.

i'm working my way through the 70's live albums for miles davis. I wasn't a huge fan of bitches brew but dark magus is amazing, even the album art is cool as hell
