buy sauce → support Open Source maintainers
In keeping with the theme of the report, our mission, and the season, let’s say thanks to OSS maintainers. Introducing @cranberrysoss.bsky.social, available for 13.37 while supplies last. All proceeds go straight to maintainers via thanks.dev. cranberrysoss.com

This report on burnout in Open Source, written by the brilliant Miranda Heath, is the most comprehensive report on this topic ever published, as far as I know

She advocates for a “community in which OSS developers are recognised as worthy of gratitude [and can] afford to live comfortably” 🔥

“Keystone maintainers” is a good name for the most impactful Open Source maintainers.

Grotesque and sickening to come back home after a busy day of teaching and being a student to read that Tory policy would mean I could not remain here.

What a great post from @opensourcepledge.com member @zerodha.com, who are giving $1 million to Open Source projects. 🙏

“FOSS projects that the world depends on ought to receive financial backing as the norm, [and] collective societal recognition is owed to maintainers.”

not only is HTTP Toolkit a great piece of software, they also pay the maintainers they depend on 🥲❤️
Another year of paying #opensource maintainers for their hard work 🦾 alongside the rest of the OpenSourcePledge.com businesses, and to celebrate: we're back up on the NASDAQ tower in Times Square!

one year of paying Open Source maintainers ✨❤️ consider mentioning the Open Source Pledge to your employer, even if you don't work in software
A year ago, @sentry.io launched the Open Source Pledge, with one singular goal: get maintainers paid.

A key pillar of the Pledge is it’s not a “pledge”, like an IOU. Rather, to join the Pledge, members come with receipts. Here’s why.

Punchcards weren't only used for code. These Department of Defense punchcards from 1966 have a microfilm window used for technical drawings — in this case, a rotary telephone switch, and a font!

I'm working on a report on the causes of burnout in open source software. If you're a part of the OSS community, I would love to hear your thoughts, either here on Bluesky, or privately via email (see post). Thanks 😊
