We need a bigger national spotlight on this building raid, fam. Agents dropped from helicopters onto the roof. Citizens and non-citizens alike were dragged from their homes in the night. People who weren't kidnapped during the raid had their belongings seized after the fact. This is madness.
"Jones, 27, is among the residents left at 7500 S. South Shore Drive who are trying to piece together what remains after an early morning, high-powered federal immigration raid led to the arrests of dozens of their neighbors at their South Shore apartment building."
Massive immigration raid on Chicago apartment building leaves residents reeling: 'I feel defeated'
The Department of Homeland Security said federal agents with Border Patrol, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested 37 people in the raid.

I recommend everyone take up gardening, physical fitness, and target shooting.

Sickening behavior by this agent. The fact that Mayor Adams has rolled out the red carpet for ICE is a stain on our city.
I was back at 26 Federal Plaza today, where an ICE agent violently threw this bereft woman to the ground in front of her kids. She had not touched him. She did not pose any threat. She had to be taken to the hospital. (🎥: Elias Eliahu)

The US left needs a charismatic leader who is up to something other than elections.

The American literary imagination is bent not toward the idea of a better future, but rather imagining an apocalypse that's less tacky and disappointing than reality.

World hegemon dying of cringe right now.

I get a kick out of how many leftists read Parable of the Sower and latch onto the parts about seeds and gardening (which is good!) but completely gloss the parts about learning to use firearms.

My elderly aunt was surprised by my descriptions of my trip to China as a modern, beautiful country with incredible trains and vibrant culture because she thought it was "full of sad people in little gray outfits."

And that's basically the level of understanding most Americans have of China.

I must've indicated I was interested in books when I signed up for this site, and now I see dozens of writers selling their novels with lifeless ad posts and it just makes me sad. How many great works of lit are hidden away because their authors weren't also talented self-marketers?

The thing about most conservatives not actually having set beliefs is that if we start creating actual consequences for being a fascist, they will just magically shift to better beliefs. Will they be sincerely held? Of course not. They just want to be on the winning side. But it's better than now.

If Daises (1966) were made today, the right would denounce it as communist genderfreak terrorism and there would be theater bombings. Decades of exported political terror are truly coming home to roost in the US. Old films seem like they come from an alternate universe.

I'm not holding my breath that recent events will prove to libs that conservatives have no set values with which to compromise, beyond "crush the libs." Cons don't have political beliefs, they have sports rivalry psychology applied to public life. This will soon be a matter of survival.

Guns will never allow people to stand up to the army or even the police. "Well-regulated militia" doesn't describe 2025 reality. What guns can do is allow workers to strike at the actual tyrants: Insurance CEOs, hedge fund managers, media moguls. Until the bosses are afraid, they'll keep killing us.

imo "violence aimed at elites from non-elites" is the category of violence most disfavored in elite discourse. and violence that flows from elites to non-elites is not conceived of as violence at all. and these ideas frame the entire elite conception of who charlie kirk was and what his murder means
I think there are a lot of answers that have already been floated around here, and I've even offered some myself, but I did want to sharpen the question a bit.

Conservatives identify with the Republican party solely because it gives them a false sense of "winning." Liberals do so with the Democratic party because it gives them the reality of "losing."

The only winners are the oligarchs. We aren't even playing the game, we are the pieces on the board.

If liberals would just embrace gun ownership they would absolutely gut conservatives in elections and also we could have gun shops with staff that aren't fucking weirdos.

As long as it's produced with the aim of shareholder profits, all social media will tend toward the privatization of social and psychological commons previously existing only offline. Twitter and Facebook are long-since parceled, Reddit is 80% of the way there, and this platform too shall succumb.

Liberals who think the killing of Charlie Kirk is an argument for gun control are fundamentally misunderstanding how power and violence have functioned to produce historical change.

We are on the cusp of many people independently and simultaneously realizing that individuals can act in self defense of the working class.
