The Planning application for the Highfield Cocoa & Coffee house by local philanthropist FT Mappin designed by renowned architect HE Hadfield would destroy much of the building as a heritage asset and ruin the Victorian streetscape. It is attracting national attention

☹️ Sorry to report we have had to CANCEL our planned visit to Loxley Cemetery tomorrow, 19th July. The forecast thunderstorms and potentially treacherous ground when muddy means we must put safety first.
We will be rearranging the walk for summer 2026, keep an eye out for more details.

💦Birley Spa in Sheffield has made the 2025 Victorian Society Top Ten Endangered Buildings list- Sad it comes to this being owned by the City Council but hopefully a catalyst for future progress in securing the site for the community 🤍

The #TopTen25 is out including our very own Edgerton Cemetery Chapel in #Huddersfield.

Designed by James Pritchett and built in 1855 the Grade II listed chapel is now in a ruinous state suffering from years of decay and damage.

Our last story in this series about the mixed results for heritage in Sheffield is a good news story. Years of neglect and pressure from campaigners has secured the Salvation Army Citadel for the city.

The 3rd and final heritage building lost during 2024 was derelict and neglected for 6 years before it was deemed dangerous to the public and demolished with no attempt to save any of the significant historic fabric.

The 2nd of our significant heritage buildings lost in 2024 is the Old Coroner's Court, Nursery Street, Sheffield. A irreplacable example of a combined Coroner's Court and Mortuary from before the first world war, now lost to another modern box with little merit. See the story here.
