A long term project to engage the community and sensitively conserve the previously neglected Victorian Wardsend Cemetery, on the banks of the River Don.
In a Sheffield garden.
Plenty of fox activity at the moment. I'm not sure but I think this might be two pregnant vixens.

'Sudden death and sudden glory'

James Ball, co-founder of Burgon and Ball, died on the 15th February 1902 aged 77.

Once exporters of sheep shears around the world the company is now better known for its RHS endorsed gardening tools and other accessories.

Charles Burgon is also buried at Wardsend.

As today is Valentine's Day a bicycle made for two might have been more appropriate.
Photo by W. T. Furniss Jnr. who joined his father in the photography business. Tragically he was killed in 1917 fighting with the KOYLI and is remembered at Tyne Cot Cemetery
W.T. Furniss Snr. is buried at Wardsend.

Help wanted.

Can anyone identify the clothing worn by the young woman in this portrait photo by W.T. Furniss who is buried at Wardsend.

It looks like work wear e.g. munitions worker (the period is right) but the scarf/neckerchief and fascinator(?) are a bit of a puzzle.

In a Sheffield garden. Nearly a record for us. Three foxes in the garden and another pair of eyes watching on from the hedge at the bottom.

On our volunteer sessions we often remove ivy from the memorials. The craftsmanship displayed in the stone carvings and the names and stories engraved on them were all meant to be seen. These few stones are all close together.
