What’s most interesting to me is that Nasser was really the archetype for both, and US interactions with Nasser accordingly mirror US interactions with Gaddafi and Saddam(each necessarily containing their own idiosyncrasies).
It strikes me as bizarre there were two countries (Libya and Iraq) whose dictators we were feuding with long before I was born and who were toppled within my lifetime.

I don’t know as much about Venezuela admittedly, but I’d contest the idea that Libya under Gaddafi wasn’t as much or more centralized. Both autocratic petrostates.
