Reskeet with a time you looked cool

(I wasn’t cool, I was out on the school field in the hot sun during an athletics day.🥵)

In response to the Aotearoa/NZ government’s racist attempts to smash down Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, our high school is doubling down, creating and new Te Ao Māori program for next year and encouraging more te Reo. 💜
I’ve ordered this fantastic book by Keri Opai for our library.

Yet every day, they walk door to door delivering hot meals and water to families who are even more isolated than they are. With five daily meal distribution stops, Dave and Dwayne bring comfort, connection, and care to neighbors rebuilding from nothing. #ChefsForJamaica (2/2)

Wow. I’ve just read the most powerfully coming-out piece by a student. It was heartbreaking, but also filled with strength and family support.
This student is a hugely talented writer, and it’s a privilege to see them begin to recognise that.

Beard oil really is a wonderful product. Truly changes the texture of a beard. I get mine from a local Hawke’s Bay company called Moonshine Beard Co.

If you’re in AoNZ and you have a beard, check them out.

Physical books, but I’ve started listening to audiobooks on my commute (a touch dangerous as I picture the scenes when I listen/read).
I often recommend audiobooks for students who struggle with reading /focus.

Let's talk about reading. Do you prefer physical books, audiobooks, Kindle/e-reader or some combination of one or more of the aforementioned formats?

Please note: This is a non-ableist, judgment free zone, so please don't knock people who don't consume books the same way you do.

Currently at and English Teachers’ conference and…I am genuinely horrified how chaotic the roll-out of the rushed new curriculum is. It’s not even fully designed or tested and we are supposed to start teacher it in February.

So the full title is COLOR TASTE TEXTURE: Recipes for Picky Eaters, Those with Food Aversion, and Anyone Who’s Ever Cringed at Food. I know that “picky eaters” is a loaded term, the sole purpose of it in the title is so it can be found by the most people. It’s used sparingly within the book itself.
I’m an Autistic classically trained chef and I wrote a food aversion acceptance cookbook and guide titled COLOR TASTE TEXTURE, that’s all about finding out what works for specific sensory needs and how to customize food for them. It’s useful for all ages, no cooking experience necessary.
Color Taste Texture by Matthew Broberg-Moffitt: 9780593538593 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books
An accessible family cookbook that offers solutions rather than tricks to empower the food-averse, autistic, and picky eater, with 46 recipes. This much-needed cookbook combines tips and techniques.....

You can hear a little bit more about food aversion from me (and some great takes from others) on this episode of ABC Radio National’s food program, Every Bite with Jonathan Green:
Food aversion — A spectrum of distaste - ABC listen
Eating can be a simple pleasure, but for some it's a struggle. Food aversions manifest in many ways, from simple picky eating to outright disgust. Very few of us don't have at least one or two foods t...

It’s the creation and development that is the most fun.😀 I LOVE writing. When you’re deep into a scene and the words are flowing, it’s a great feeling and satisfying to weave all the elements of a story together.
I also love readers who connect with it and chat, then I know it worked.🥰

I wouldn't have spent a zillion hours doing this if I did not enjoy the act of writing. Even when it's hard (especially when it's hard), it's so rewarding. It's so clarifying. When I finish something, sure I'm proud of it, but I'm already itching to shove it out of my way and start the next thing.

Agreed.💜
We're socialized to constantly apologize for being too outwardly excited about things, but this world is so full of terror and misery that I'd rather see those bursts of light and passion shine through the cracks wherever you can find them.

And “Guy Fawkes Night” is celebrated in Aotearoa/NZ, which shows how far English propaganda from several hundred years ago reaches. Most of my students have no idea why it’s “celebrated” and when I tell them we used to make effigies of Fawkes and throw them on a communal bonfire, they’re horrified.
In the USA, you set off fireworks on the Forth of July to celebrate the successful independence from British Empire.

In the UK, you set off fireworks on Guy Fawkes Day to celebrate defeating the attempt to throw off the yoke of Empire.
