The Next One
Here's what's going to happen next.
Somewhere, right now, a trans person is teaching a class, or coaching a team, or working at a library, or providing healthcare. They're doing their job. They're probably good at it. And at some point, someone is going to have a problem with them. Maybe a parent, maybe a student, maybe a coworker. The problem won't really be about job performance. The problem will be that they're trans.
That person, or someone connected to them, will take their grievance to social media. If they're lucky, Libs of TikTok will pick it up. Or Turning Point. Or one of the other accounts that have built massive followings by turning trans people into content. The post will frame the trans person as a predator, or a groomer, or a bully, or a tyrant. It won't matter what actually happened. The framing is the point.

Then the calls will start. To the school board, to the administration, to the HR department. Local news will cover the "controversy." A state legislator will demand an investigation. The institution, desperate to make the problem go away, will put the trans person on leave. Maybe they'll be fired outright. Maybe they'll resign because the harassment makes it impossible to do their job. Either way they're gone.
And then the person who started it all will go on Fox News. They'll get a GoFundMe. Maybe a speaking gig at a conservative conference. If the story is big enough, if it goes viral enough, they might get something more. A podcast. A book deal. A center with their name on it.
This is not a guess. This is a pattern. We've watched it happen over and over again, and we will keep watching it happen until the institutions that capitulate to these campaigns start recognizing them for what they are: coordinated attempts to purge trans people from public life, dressed up as individual controversies.

So, (spoiler alert) the sun is going out and the people on the spaceship are going to restart it and save the earth. They have a lot of challenges to overcome like in any movie, and then they overcome them. But here's the thing about the movie that you won't believe: no one ever looks really serious and says "It's daylight saving time."

Not one character. No one says "It's daylight saving time." In the entire movie. I know you don't think it's possible, but if you watch it you'll feel like you wasted 4 hours of your life (time moves slower when you're waiting for someone to deliver an amazing line). What were the writers thinking!?

ICE shot an American citizen and food bank worker who tried to block them arresting an immigrant by pulling his car in front of them.
After being released from hospital: "He is now facing charges for assault on a federal officer."

Carlos Jimenez, a 24-year-old U.S. citizen, was on his way to work at a food bank when he was shot by ICE officers in what a DHS spokesperson calls “defensive shots.”

On Thursday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., ICE officers were at Vineyard Avenue in Ontario when Jimenez, who was not in the target vehicle, attempted to pull in front of the officers.

According to Javier Hernandez, executive director of the Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, Jimenez was trying to assist and provide aid to the person who was being stopped by ICE officers.

After Jimenez was shot in the shoulder, the LA Times and LA Taco reported that he drove to his brother’s house so he could take him to the hospital.

One thing the media's reticence to label Kirk an extremist has made jarringly clear is how scared they are of the people in power now who share his extremist beliefs.

In the space of nine months, they have internalized a fear of condemning racism, misogyny, homophobia and antisemiticism.

I want to address the recent event where conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has died after his neck came into contact with a high speed projectile...
I think there are a lot of conservatives who like to preach individual responsibility who really need to show some more ideological consistency on this matter.
Yes it's a tragedy what occurred, but it was ultimately his decision to respond as he did - he could've chosen to grab his neck straight afterwards and keep pressure on the wound until paramedics were able to arrive and tend to it, and had he done so he might've survived.
Instead he chose to slump back in his chair and bleed out. That in my view was a personal decision he chose to make - one that represents a significant moral failing on his part. I feel deeply for his daughter who is going to have to live with the consequences of her father's decision in that moment to simply give up on life and bleed out when it could've been prevented had he made better personal choices.
Obviously conservatives understand that life isn't always fair and the world doesn't care about our feelings, but if there's any silver lining we can take from this tragic accident, it's that his daughter will hopefully grow up to be a more self sufficient person as a result of this, and hopefully will make better personal choices when she's older.
Everything happens for a reason, and I sincerely hope Charlie Kirk's family are able to see the glass half full in this situation rather than adopt a victim mentality.
