The backlash to Bluesky reminds me that in high school, my buddies and I wanted nothing to do w/ the jocks, who gave their big in-group an insipid name. They were weirdly fascinated w/ our activities, though, to the point of giving *our* little group of 4 or 5 a name, which we rejected of course. 1/

Tonight, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band opened their Land of Hope & Dreams Tour. Bruce launched this run of shows with three statements about the situation in the United States, with comments preceding his songs Land of Hope and Dreams, House of a Thousand Guitars and My City of Ruins.

The cruelty his base craves is cratering his ratings with independents.
Remarkable from WaPo poll: Trump sinking fast on immigration among independents.

56% disapprove of handling of issue
62% oppose removing foreign students
52% oppose renditions to El Salvador
Only 21% want Abrego Garcia left there

Engage, Dems.

New piece from me:

Trump Is Suddenly Bleeding Independents. A Brutal New Poll Shows Why.
Immigration was his best issue in the polls. But now he's sinking on it. Maybe Americans care about the rule of law after all.

He's pissed that Roberts didn't give him a chance to water down the ruling as happened with the prior one, which left wiggle room for Trump in order to achieve a 9-0 ruling. Alito sees the other 7 aligned against him and can't handle the affront.

It is SO unusual for the Supreme Court to issue an order this late at night and honestly incredible only Thomas and Alito noted their dissents.

Also fascinating that SCOTUS rushed out the order before Alito could finish writing his dissent. That basically never happens! Again—majority seems pissed.

NEW: Two high-ranking members of Putin's inner circle reiterated Putin's June 2024 non-negotiable demands that any resolution of the war in Ukraine must result in regime change, extensive territorial concessions, and long-term limitations on Ukraine's military. 🧵(1/7) isw.pub/UkrWar041525

one leader of a country straight out lies about them enjoying margaritas and the other leader of a country does this
Trump just posted a photo of himself holding up a piece of paper claiming to show tattoos on Kilmar Abrego Garcia that are related to MS-13. The paper he’s holding up has been digitally altered to add the characters MS-13.

The claim comes from neo-Nazis on X who say the tattoos cover up “MS-13.”

Losses from the tragic LA fires are estimated at $150B. For decades we've been assured that climate change is too expensive to address. Or that it doesn't exist at all.

Outside my front window, one leaf on a broken branch has been dangling for weeks but never quite lets go. Every other leaf fell a month ago. May we all be so resilient in 2025 and beyond.

On the bright side, such a heavy lift is nearly impossible without the commitment of a fully engaged White House, and we all know what Trump's real priorities are.
Rep. Richard McCormick: "We're gonna have to have some hard decisions. We're gonna have to bring in the Democrats to talk about Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare. There's hundreds of billions of dollars to be saved, we just have to have the stomach to take those challenges on."

They get to live in a bubble, but we don't unless it's their bubble.
The logic being that Trump won the election and somehow the only place we’ll be exposed to his ideas is on social media?
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?

Reminder for Bluesky newcomers: The blessed absence of an algorithm to disrupt your real-time feed means your likes do not help spread that content.

If you wish to amplify a post, you have to repost it. And, as with your own posts, you may want to do so at different times to catch different users.

Boxing is not for me, but since when does fighting a 58-year-old prove somebody's the ultimate tough guy? The two women who beat hell out of each other for 10 rounds (of which I could stomach less than three) showed a lot more guts.

Do this, but also I recommend subscribing to Criterion's streaming platform; it's a great repository of stuff not available elsewhere.
There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know I’m a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc
